hello!
i have a toll free number which i would like to start advertising, but it requires people to either go through a short menu to access my company direct or enter a one digit extension.
is it ok to advertise my phone number as:
1-800-590-1064 ext. 1
(feel free to give it a call and try out)
would that be too complicated and bothersome?
even if they dont type the extension, they can be transferred via a menu.

Is this one of those 'shared office' deals?
What happens if they dial '0'? Which is what a lot of people do. Do they get someone who can direct them to you?
Can I assume US, since you have a 1-800 number? Not sure how much business you lose now days because of not having an 800 number. With the unlimited phone plans within the country, does anyone look at long distance as a cost-burden anymore?

Many people absolutely despise voice response menu systems that require them to burrow deeper into some sort of tree system. It will either:
1) immediately turn them off resulting in a "hang up," or
2) make you appear unprofessional or like some sort of fly by night operation.

The main question is who you are advertising to. If they are in your local area, 99% chance they will have unlimited local calling, so it would not bother them one bit to call a regular number. If its long distance in state, a few would think twice, but only because you might be far away rather than close by. If it's out of state long distance, people may want to go for someone more local. So which of these represents your customers?

i have customers calling me from all over the country.
well i own a holding company with 4 subsidiaries. the phone number is for the holding company and the tree system just directs people to which subsidiary they are looking for.
no matter what they press they can reach me pretty easily.
