Hello all! My first time here and this looks like a wonderful place to be.
I just received my camera this past christmas and boy am I excited. I need the following help. My camera is making this small tingling sound when I tilt the camera back and forth, sort of like the glass or mirror is sliding or something very small is either loose. It doesn't sound like it's bouncing around inside. I just hear a slide back and forth.
Also, I'll be shooting pictures in a classroom with kids and parents moving around, the room has fluroscent lights. I don't want to use flash. Please offer advice for shooting in this setting.
Thank you for your time!

That would be a gyro that determines if You shoot in portrait or landscape mode. So it can turn the photo automatically when viewing.
Congrats and I am sure You will be happy with the camera once You get to know it well.

Well a gyro is something much more advanced than what is in the 300D... judging by the sound it's a tilt switch with a ball bearing inside.
As well, the linkage for the pop-up flash makes a bit of noise when the flash isn't up.

Well that was the best term I could think of and it was understood so.

Hi...
When I bought my 300D 1 1/2 years ago, I was very concerned about the same sound....It sounded as though it was comming from the area of the camera where the pop-up flash is located...was told that the little metal arms inside of the flash were the source of the noize.
It is common, dont worry about it.

First of all, welcome to the forum.
Also, I'll be shooting pictures in a classroom with kids and parents moving around, the room has fluroscent lights. I don't want to use flash. Please offer advice for shooting in this setting.
There is a white balance setting for flourescent lights which will adjust to compensate for the different colour temperature. I would suggest taking a few test shots as there are different types of flourescent lights. You can always use a white card (or object) to manually set the white balance.
If you are not using a tripod and/or a 'fast' Lens you should also consider the ISO setting. In the basic modes the ISO is automatically set between 100 and 400. In the creative modes, you can set the value from 100 through 1600.
Cheers
Michael

if you pop open the flash and shake the camera - you'll see where the sound is coming from...
