Has anyone tried Leica lens on Canon? There is a cheap adapter, and the article below sounds very interesting. Your opinions?

What about Contax lens? I saw Contax to EOS adapter too

I think you loose your metering capability of your EOS camera and of course, AF mechanism other then that it's fine lens for your EOS or Contax.

You lose AF, and your metering is limited to "stop-metering". Kind-of a semi-automatic aperture priority. The camera cannot set the aperture, but it can still set an appropriate shutter speed based on the amount of light that your manual aperture lets in.
If your eyes are like mine, manual focus isn't a very good option. The camera does a fantastic job of focusing compared to me.
Also, there are a few folks on FM and RobGalbraith that are experimenting with alternative lenses. Some make sense for their purposes (the Zeiss 21 mm f/2.8 Distagon is popular), but others really don't outshine their Canon counterparts by an appreciable margin. Its hard to beat the 35/1.4L for example. Note that the people doing the experimentation are almost exclusively 1Ds II owners whose work demands exceptional performance out to the corners on full-frame. On the 1.3X and 1.6X sensors, the list of sensible alternative glass shrinks.

us$ 175 for a basic piece of metal is *NOT* inexpensive -OUCH:evil:
The most common off brand lenses used on EOS are nikkors (except the latest G type). Do a search on ebay for 'eos adapter' and you'll find adapters thats sell for about $40
Another common one is for all M42 lenses (old screw mount). The adapters for these are even cheaper
In spite of the scare stories often told, these cheap adapters are very good.Rarely they may have very slight tightness/looseness issues but they will never be crooked (that's impossible due to the way they are made)
Other brands are possible but unfortunately there are no inexpensive adapter options available
These are the Leica R , Contax and olympus OM
Sadly pentax K mount can't be used due to clearance issues only
All other brands of 35mm lenses (except for odd exceptions) have too short a register distance to be used on EOS.
well...they can be used if you buy an optical type adapter but that certainly won't be of interest to you-you want optical quality, not rubbish
One last thing,i have used many different brand lenses on EOS. Just set it to Av and it's in a kind of semi auto aperture priority mode as Tom says above.Even the flash works pretty well!
The one tricky thing is the manual focussing. I must admit it really is difficult getting it right without a focus aid in the viewfinder. As it's a DSLR i mostly i just fire away ,trying several times to make sure i have one shot in focus.
That would be no good for action though
