View Full Version : I just signed my life away to Bestbuy...

Take a lookie at my sig. Today I woke up really early, and drove to Bestbuy... signed up for the Bestbuy card... got approved for $2000 (wee) of credit, and signed my life away for a Digital Rebel Kit. 12mo, no interest, no payments! I'm at school now, but can't wait to get home to play with it. Batteries are charging now, gonna buy a few generics on ebay for backup. Yay!
First thing I wanna buy... the 50mm f/1.8.... Oi, I can't believe I just did that. I walked back into my house and my mom's like "What's that..." *points to the box*. I'm like "err.... camera." She goes "Don't you already have...." Lol! Yeah, but she seemed to take it alright, even though I told her the price (which is a pretty outrageous figure to spend for a poor college student).
Anyway, I really can't wait to get home to snap my first photos! I'll be using my 256MB CF from my S230 till I have time to run out and buy a 1GB CF... ;)

Hehe, thanks for the welcome guys (and gals... maybe?) :)
Oi. I'm already itching to buy the 50mm lens. And I haven't even shot the camera yet!
I'm gonna buy the CF card first, then the lens when our dollar is still strong, then eventually the flash. So so excited, I wanna skip class and go home! But I can't ... I really need to learn this stuff... test coming up so soon.

a word of advice -- don't wait 12 months to start paying off the debt. take advantage of this "no interest" period and pay that sucker off. make a payment schedule and stick to it, otherwise you'll be effectively buying 2 digi rebels.
the fine print will tell you that after the 12th month, you are responsible for interest that have acrued over the prior 12 months -- so that will be a big chunk of cashola. not sure what the best buy card's APR is, but i bet it's .01% lower than the threshold of illegality (so it's probably at 24.99% or some such).

Oh for sure, I've already thought of this. I'm definitely paying off at least 100/mo, and when I have extra cash I'm gonna it throw it towards the card. No way in hell I'm paying interest, I'm taking *advantage* of it!
S230: I've looked through that thread. I was also considering a D70, but the price threw me off. I was able to get the Drebel for ~$950 before taxes, where the D70 was 1300 before taxes. Not a big jump, but I'd still rather save the ~350 plus tax ;) Besides, having everything Canon is cool (I should add a Pixma to my wish list... )

I was in your boat 6 months ago :D
No reason to complain. 1300 is not a debt. :D Wait till the L bug bites ya! :D

A 17-40L ($654.95 after rebate) or a 70-200L f/4 ($554.95 after rebate) would take care of that excess credit quite nicely. :)

Hahahahha! You guys are great. Unfortunately (or would it be fortunately?) the credit is at Bestbuy, and I can't get anything really nice photography-related (besides maybe a pixma) there.
I'm saving up to get my CF card and a 50mm LENS paying with CASH that I own. I'm not putting myself into any more debt... lol!
Hm... However, I can put a Pixma iP5000 on the card and have no interest.... mm.... Gah!
//edit: I *do* need a bag though. I want one big enough to carry 2 lenses, a CF card 'wallet' and ALSO my S230. But I don't want a huge one. Mmm...

This is the route i went with my 300D. Gave me a little credit to my name, got a great camera in my hands, and it felt like it cost me nothing...kinda.

Nahhh. Get the i9900. Better printer. Wide format. BB doesn't carry any decent bags either. :(

My best buy does carry the 28-135 IS USM, a great lens. It is over priced there though.

Bestbuy doesn't carry that printer anymore :( And I wont print anything bigger than 8x10. At least not at home. Ahh! I can't believe I'm still at school. I'm still here till NINE! That's 4 more agnosing hours while my Drebel sits at home ... missing me, hopefully :)

With batteries charging. Look at the bright side. I'm not sure about the Pixma printers...Anyone else using one of them?

Alright. I don't want to spend more than $250 on a printer though, so the Pixma iP5000 is probably what I'd like.
My first purchase towards this camera would be this though, does this seem okay?

Be careful at BestBuy...they have a nasty company they work with out in Philadelphia(I think)....First of all, pay the minimum every month or you get a $30 penalty and a bad mark on your credit. Be on time...if they say the payment is due on a certain date(even on a Sunday), they will count it late if it arrives on Monday. Don't be late on payments and you do have to pay them a minimum payment each month even though it is interest free if the whole amount is paid on the date.

Thanks. But it's no interest, no payments. But thanks for the headsup, I'll definitely pay off my bills. I'm good with that, haven't had one late payment yet :)

I would say yes go for it. I have bought a few batterys through Ebay within the last couple years and have been quite pleased with them.

Hmm.. Alright, time to yell at customer service for misinforming me. Thanks Echo, I'll be wary of that.
Yes, I bought the service plan. Since I'm an employee, I get it at 55% off. I figured, might as well :)
wolf: ebay batteries will charge fine in the charger provided by the kit, correct? It wont mess up the charger, and 'specially not the camera I hope....
//edit: I forgot to say, I'm HOME! WEee... before I even turned on the camera, I put a screen protector on the back LCD. Gonna protect this baby as much as I can. Slapped on the old EF 35-105mm, and it WORKS! NICE! Two lenses to play with. Now... I just gotta find stuff to shoot, and learn how to use this camera. Wee... so excited lol

Buy the ip4000 not the 5000. The 5000 has slightly better graphic printing but the 4000 prints better photographs. I read a ton of reviews all stating the same.

You made the right choice in going with Canon. I finally decided to stick out with Canon and especially after hacking the firmware I'm quite impressed.
The most important thing and even reading through this thread, it seems that you are going to buy more stuff. Canon allows you to upgrade to next model without any changes to your lens which will be the major investment. Also, more models to choose from which is important. The next model up is the 20D and all your accessories including batteries are the same. (Excluding battery grip).
THis is nice because you may not be ready for the 1 series yet.

Awesome :) I don't think I"m even ready for this Drebel yet, cos I need to play around with the settings to even get a shot to look clear, let alone nice :) But I'm learning, and playing, and having oh so much fun.

I financed my 10D, 17-40L, 28-135IS, 75-300IS, 420EX, 1GB Sandisk Ultra II, Tripod, and camera bag. I borrowed $3000.00 for 36 months and got a payment of $105.00 per month. I made $200.00 payments the first three months and then upped it to $400.00. After income taxes I'll probably pay off the balance since their are no penalties for early payoff.
