So my 300D is now complete with the BG-E1 Grip, and what a great difference it makes. Holding the camera seems so much more natural!
I have added the E1 Hand Strap to my list of purchases, but am a little puzzled how to attach it to the camera for best effect. There seem to be a number of ways to thread the thin strap through the padded bit, and on to the two lugs.
Am I overanalyzing this? Is there an 'official' method? Is life too short to worry about this sort of thing?
Come on Grip users, keep me sane...... :)

* runs away *
I have two cameras with the E1 strap on. I believe the instructions for how to fit the strap on the 10D were in the documentation for the BG-ED3 battery grip. For the 1D Mark II I just copied the 10D.
Hours of fun ;) but if you check the battery grip "manual" there might be something in there...

My 1DsMkII instruction booklet actually had the correct way of putting on the hand strap (I had it (and still have it) wrong on the 10D w/BG-ED)
The key is the straps come together behind your hand with Canon logo up and out.
The small plastic square loops go on the ends, with the over under part behind the hand. The straps overlap each other.
I will try to remember to scan or image the page and post this evening.
And the instructions were not in either my D60, 10D, BG-ED or E-1 packaging

So what you are saying is; RTFM!
You're right, the clearly illustrated instructions, for the hard of thinking, are in the BG-E1 manual.......
(skulks off feeling like a bit of a tw*t)

Basically, You run the strap down through the pad, through the pin under the grip, back up through the bottom of the pad. The part of the strap coming up out of the top of the pad goes up to where the neck strap is attached. You use the little metal clip there by running the neck strap through it, then using the extra hole in the clip to run the upper hand strap through. Then run the hand strap back down to the pad and use the buckle there to secure the two ends together, and adjust for comfort. I am trying to explain this from memory. Hope it makes sense. If you search the forums, you might find pictures posted. This question has been asked numerous times on all of the canon forums.
I Hope this helps...at least I tried....!

 Let's be fair here... before you knock yourself too much, it would be useful if Canon supplied instructions for fitting the strap with the strap ;)

You got a manual with the battery grip? I don't remember seeing one with mine (but then it has been quite some time)

Hmmmmm, 'Manual' is a bit of a strong term. 'Sheet of Paper with basic instructions in many languages' might be a little more accurate!! :)
Anyway, I am now 'strapped in' and gripping nicely..... ;)
Cheers
