Travelled to Newcastle for a day trip in the freezing wind, hopefully images would justify all cost :D

Both shot with 1D MK II + 16-35mm 2.8, between 30 secs to 75 secs exposure time

#1 Beautiful shot of a graceful structure. Must be awesome being there.

#2 How big is that angel? Hard to judge. Nice shot of it.

It is awesome being there, also it was FREEZING cold with 60mph wind blowing at you!

The angel is HUGE! I was trying to show it's scale but really couldn't find anything next to it for comparison, also I couldn't stay in the wind for much longer, only manage to take 3 shots of it. As for the scale, if a human stands next to the angel, he'll probably reach its ankle!!!

Near the A1 in Gateshead in the North East of England, is Britain's largest and most impressive sculpture. Commissioned by Gateshead Council and created by internationally renowned sculptor Antony Gormley, the sculpture rises 20 metres (65 feet) over the hilltop landscape.

The Angel has been fabricated from 200 tonnes of weathering steel by Hartlepool Steel Fabrications Ltd on Teesside. It has a wing span of 54 metres (175 feet) - almost as big as a jumbo jet's.

You didn't need to go that far - there is a life size straw replica of the angel at Snugbury's Ice Cream Farm near Chester!! :D

B of the Bang is that new sculpture near the City of Manchester Stadium - it's horrible!

Holy Angel! That is HUGE!!!   I've got to see that one. We hope to get to northern England in a year or two - I'll make sure we get there. What else is in that part of the country?

Thanks guys :D

Jim, when you get to North England, make sure to visit "Angel of North", near A1 motorway. What else is there? Emmm.... if you're into football, then St. James Park, home ground to Newcastle United is situated there, there are also quite a few bridges across the river, lots of churches ... can't really tell you much about the place since it was my first visit! :p

I'm sure someone here would know more about Newcastle, any Geordies here?

Jim,

All I can say is that Newcastle is on of the best nights out in the UK. Very friendly and great bars along the waterfront. :) That is all I know about Newcastle itself.

But the coastline to the north and to the south can be stunning in parts if you are into landscape work.

Lovely shots, especially #2. Its a real shame about that post and tree though - otherwise the picture would be absolutely perfect.
