What can the pro's tell me about this lens Canon EF 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II USM, it's only about $200.00 bucks, not too much money for the praise it gets on some web sites I've looked at. I'm looking for something for action shots, and still be able to afford to feed my family. My camera is a digital rebel.

It was originally designed for the APS EOS cameras, along with the 22-55mm, got a friend who has one on a EOS500, he likes it, but then that is an old camera. I keep telling him it would be a good companion to a 300D with kit lens (18-55)!

Kids sports, indoor and outdoor. Does high ISO noise mean the shot wont be crisp?

for indoor sports in low light, i would really save up for an 85mm 1.8 or 100mm f2.0 I just bought my 100mm today it should be here in a week.

After manual frustrations out the #$$#$#$ my whole photography life i am finally avoiding any lens that uses a - when indicating aperature(s)
partly joking and partly serriously, you don't know how many manualy "wide open" exposures i have botched because i was shooting wide angle and wide open, then decded to zoom in.....

Im a BIG fan of the canon 85 f/1.8
or the tamron 28-75 f/2.8
Canon EF 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 isnt going to hack indoor sports at all...
high iso's for indoor sports will make your shots have more grain, it takes away detail from the photo...but at least you get a picture out of the lighting situation

This is the revised MkII version of that lens. It was released with the Digital Rebel as a companion to the 18-55mm kit lens... It's quick, quiet and takes very sharp pictures even on a 10d and 20d.
Adam-T reviewed this lens in the following thread at DP Reveiw:

Read far enough to look at the pictures of 100% crops from this inexpensive lens... It is very sharp even when looking at the edge of the frame at pixel level...
I bought this and a 50mm/f1.8 MkII with the Dreb kit during the first week of the Dreb's release... I still have it... Nice sharp pictures without costing $500+...
