Well I just had a break down with my canon rebel 2000, and i am looking for a new camera. I also have a digital rebel. I am looking around for a lens that I can you all around rather than just the kit lens. I was looking at the image stabalizers 17-85 lens from canon, it looked awsome, but now i learn that it only works with Digital Rebel, i want something i can use for both film and digital. What is your opinion, i am thinking about getting a E-lan 7n off ebay, what good lenses would be usefull. I looked in the image stabalized area but everything costs way too much. I am looking to spend around 600 on the lens tops. What film camera is best compatable with the rebel's lenses.

tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di or a Canon 17-40 f4 L or a canon 70-200 f4 L (too big?)

anything in the EOS line of film bodies will work with the same lenses as your drebel. EF-S lenses are just for the drebel and 20d, anything else that is in the EF line will work with both.

I have an elan 7n and I love it...

Canon 28-135 IS lens for general purposes.

I have to agree with Bob - the 28-135 IS gives you image stabilization and a very respectable range for the film camera. Since you already have the kit lens, you can get fairly wide with your Digital Rebel, but for the film, you don't need that (and the kit lens won't work on full-frame film cameras anyway).

You might want to pick up a 50 mm f/1.8 with whatever you get - its cheap and offers a wide/fast f/1.8 aperture. Great for low light. And its a sharp lens.

I'd suggest the Canon 28-135 IS as well. Very good lens and I use it on my 10D and 7ne all the time and am pleased with the results I get. Not an L lens but still good quality and it does have IS and in your price range with a little to spare.
