Sorry to bother you folks again, but I have one more question. With the 1DmkII ,Is there a way to change the image file name within the camera? On my new 1D the file name is LYOUXXXX rather then the standard IMG as in my 10D. From what I have read this is a unique identifier programed by the factory. Can it be changed? I know I can add file folders onto the mem card or change folder names, but have found nowhere where I can change the actual image file name....

Thanks in advance..

You cannot change names in the camera. However, keep in mind that the camera will set certain filenames depending on what settings you have, aRGB, sRGB, RAW, JPEG, etc.

There are many third party software packages that you can utilize while transferring files from card to computer and auto-rename them to what makes you happy. Check out Downloader Pro from http://www.breezesys.com/ for one.

Thanks Jim and sGu. I'm not real crazy about these designated letters ( LYOU XXXX ), but they won't be hard to remember anyway.. I suppose it is a good feature for theft recovery or in instances where there are files from more then one camera....

Thanks for your replies...

I'll second Jim's suggestion for Downloader Pro. You can have any filename you want when it downloads as well as named/dated directories. One of the best bits of software going for the busy photographer. Oh, and for the DPI challenged, you can stick any number you want into the DPI tag, so if seeing 300 in there is important to you, no problemo....

When I first started out I had bought breezebrowser for my RAW editing. I have since moved onto C1 but breezebrowser is what I used to rename my files once I copy them onto my pc. It remembers where you last left off and is blazingly fast.
