This was taken yesterday morning (January 12), and is a view from the bridge across the highway from our house looking towards Mt. San Jacinto---about a ten minute walk from our house.

The 'River' is acutally a dry wash about 360 days a year, but this was right on the heels of some very heavy rainstorms, so there was actually running water in it.

I just though you all would like to see why I'm willing to put up with 115-120 degree temperatures in the summer. This is heaven in the winter.

A brilliant view, from just outside your house!

I'm so jealous.

Wanna trade houses for a few weeks? I need some winter shots. :)

You can walk from your house up to San Jacinto in ten minutes? I'm impressed! It usually takes me three or four hours, and I start from Idyllwild... :D :p :D

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Nice shot! You really do have a great view!

Not Bad. That's some serious heat in the summer though. Like the snow capped mountain. Beautiful Image.

I would trade......

Is that a golf course? the grass looks mowed.

Take all that white stuff on top of the mountain and dump it in and around the river, drop the temperature by about 100 degrees, and you have pretty much Montreal.
OK I'm jealous:):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)

Nice area you live in. As I sit here this morning watching the snow come down I am convinced that you are just trying to make us dislike you. Thanks. We really love it here.

Sheldon:
Come back in August. I won't be nearly so smug then.

Marie:
Thanks for the comments. BTW, I was standing on our brand new bridge that the city just built across the wash. I think they spent $11 million on it----just opened it in October..

Mills:
No, that's the irony. I live in one of the golfing meccas of the world, and I don't play.

I can't afford the gree fees. Sheesh, I though photography was expensive, but I see what golfers pay for their equipment, and what a typical round of golf costs, and I know it's out of my league.

Besides, I'm a klutz.

Where I lived, it snowed a couple of days ago. Yesterday it was 20 degrees outside. Last night and all morning, it's been raining and it's about 50 degrees out with huge puddles everywhere - the backyeard is a lake now. Tonight it will snow and then everything will freeze for the weekend. Go New Hampshire!

You are also living on one of the top courses in the world. If you had a golf course that was named top 100 would you charge $30-$50 a round?

Belmondo
14th of January 2005 (Fri), 07:07
What's really absurd is that as a homeowner in Indian Wells, I'm entitled to play for $35.00 per round, year-round, so when I say money is an issue, I'm lying through my teeth. I'm sure I could come up with $35 if I really wanted to. I just don't have any interest in the game. (Maybe I'm afraid of acquiring yet another addiction.) I've always thought it would be neat to own an electric golf cart, though.

Great scenery - the only thing I would add to my home (if I were God!!!) is a nice mountain range!! :)

WOW! Tom I almost missed this one, what a great shot and view. Say how long did it take you to mow all that lawn.   , See one advantage we have is we don't have to do any yard work in the winter, nothing is growing, Now aren't you jealous.

I just checked the temperature. It's 0 F.
Perhaps you'd like to stop by and sit for awhile by the garden.

Thanks everyone. I don't post much....it just isn't that often all the elements come together (weather, sun, inspiration, camera in hand, etc.), and I'm the first to admit my train pictures are a bit repetitive.

Thanks. All I did was crank up the saturation just a small amount and adjust levels. Probably no more than 2-3 minutes of fiddling.

Hi belmondo,
Well interesting...I thought you were in more of the reddish/brown desert like Tucson type. I sit corrected. I am uploading a few more pics of around here. 10D and Sigma 120-300mm F2.8EX w/ 1.4x TC
Mt McKinley/Mt Foraker and there was some haze which the camera picked up...

Hey Canuck...
Good to see you. Thanks for those shots.

Why don't you put them in a new thread? This one is getting a little shopworn, and a lot of people won't realize there's new stuff in it.

Bet it's colder there than here.

The weather must be getting nice again down in your parts Belmundo :)

I found this while searching for some 35mm 1.4 shots. Not sure where this one fit into my search but it was nice none the less.

Pictures like that remind me that I DO miss the clear desert skies in the winter. Combine that with early morning or late evening light, and you have some real potential for excellent photos. Good shot, Thos. I also liked the President's airplane you snapped, however illegally.
