I'm using Adobe Bridge CS3 and ACR.
Usually I tag files in Bridge then open a batch with ACR and in ACR I either cull or give them a star rating. Usually I shoot in RAW but occasionally I shoot jpg and have never had a problem doing things this way.
I have a batch of several hundred jpegs that I want to sort as mentioned above so I select them and try to open them in ACR but only 2 of several hundred jpgs open in ACR.
Can anyone tell me how I can get them all to open in ACR?

I'm not sure I understand your question. You don't need ACR to tag, rate, or sort your images in Bridge. Adobe Camera RAW is an editor, so unless you want to somehow modify the images you certainly don't need to open ACR. Simply open the folder containing the images in Bridge and you can sort and rate as much as you want.

I know that but I use ACR to view the images in detail.... I like to be able to view at a larger size than I can in Bridge... ACR has always been an easy way for me to open up a batch to view individual pics easily.
Once I have rated the images I consider the best I then open that batch in PhotoShop and work on them there.

If you need to view the images at larger size you can either view your images as a slideshow (CTRL + L) and rate them with the number pad keys, or create a custom workspace by closing out the panels you don't need and saving it...then by attaching it to one of the three numbered buttons in the lower right you can always pull up your custom workspace.
Anyway, there are several ways to open images from Bridge into ACR: select the images you want to view then press the CTRL+R command. You can alsoouble-click on the image thumbnails, of from the Bridge menu select File > Open in Camera Raw.
Just so you know, ACR is hardcoded to only open a maximum of 250 images at a time.

Thanks - I'll try the mucking around with the custom workspaces.
It still doesn't tell me why all of a sudden ACR will only open 2 of a batch of jpgs though instead of a lot more than 2. I selected 100 files and only 2 would open in ACR... they weren't in sequence. When I tried 50 only 1 jpg would open (1 of the 2 that would open when I selected 100).

Try resetting Bridge to its factory defaults. Double-click the icon to start Bridge then immediately press the CTRL+ALT+Shift keystroke combination. You will see a dialog box appear, check both options in the dialog box and Bridge will be set to its defaults.
This usually clears up most problems.
Then you can go to Camera Raw Preferences and Bridge Preferences and configure it to your liking.
