Hi Folks

I've heard good reports about this lens.

It's priced at £75 from www.warehouseexpress.com

Any of you folks have opinions on it or know where I can get it cheaper?

Cheers.

seems very high, here in the us it goes for around $70 from the internet and usually $95 in stores

i have it and i like it - one of the best bang for the buck lenses out there. some purists will tell you to get a used 50mm f/1.8 (first gen) because it has the metal mount ring. ive actually dropped a camera and destroyed the 2nd gen lens w/ NO dammage to the mount ring... but overall, its a fast lens and makes a great portrait lens on a 1.6x crop

Purists would say to get the 50/1.4 lens.. .. but honestly the 50/1.8 is one sweet little gem and I recommend it whole heartedly.

Hi Golden-Balls
You could try 7dayshop, they have it listed at £55 & P&P. I know they have had some bad threads here recently, but I can say I have had no problems with them at all.
cheers

www.7dayshop.com have this lens in at £55 inc vat, as others have said for the price its a very good lens but I always found it subjectable to dust, over the years Ive had 3 of them, 1 mk1 with the metal mount and 2 mk2's with plastic mount, they all have been very sharp.

If you pick the lens up and hold it in your hand, you'll immediately think "Cheap construction" :)

It's very cheaply built.. All plastic and no USM. If you get the lens hood, you'll find that it's a bit awkward. You have to screw in an adapter that the hood mounts on. I also don't like the 52mm lens thread.. They could have made it the more common 58mm (I have several filters for this thread that I can't use on the 50mm f/1.8 :( )

Takes nice sharp photos however.. You can't beat the results you get for that price..

I have this lense and it is great for the price. besides feeling a little on the "Cheap" side, i wouldn't be able to tell between it or an expensive one.

Go for it, mate! It's a great little lens and I shoot most of my candid stuff with it (on a 10D). Yep, it's not of the most robust construction but at the price...

I've used 7 day shop for a lot of stuff and not had any problems so far, they've been prompt and very cheap. I'm aware others on here have had serious problems with them, so please don't take my post as any kind of iron-clad endorsement for that firm.

In Canada is sells for approximately $140.00. A very good non "L" lens.

It's much cheaper to buy from the states and import it. I'm thinking mine will be about $120 after taxes.... take advantage of our strong dollar now ;)

Hello golden balls,
This is not a Cheap lens, it is an inexpensive little gem. Very sharp and a nice portrait lens on my D30. I have had no troubles with dust or the filter threads. It sells for $119.95 Canadian dollars anywhere in Toronto.
Jim.
