View Full Version : I miss auto-login. And...

I miss auto-login. Sometimes it works, & sometimes not. Anyone know why? I recently switched to XP, but that shouldn't matter, should it? OTOH, everything worked just fine in win98 & Netscape. Could the "cookies cleared" msg on log-out have anything to do with that? Why would I want to clear cookies from this forum, anyway?
And, I miss the "Subscribe to this post". And the "Un-Subscribe to this post." options we used to have.
Ctrl+V seems to be the only paste option that works for me now.
Sometimes I get several notifications to the same post when I haven't revisited the post. Sometimes not. ???
I've noticed in some posts that "&" becomes an ascii code.
I do like the 'look' of the new forum though, & I especially am glad that it's back. Good job, Pekka!

Auto-login works perfect. You do need to keep cookies though. Subscribe to a thread (also) works perfectly. Just click the Thread Tools menu button at the top of the first post in a thread. Cut and paste also works perfectly either using the keyboard or the browser menus.
Sounds like you're a bit overwhelmed with XP and haven't surfed the new forum functions enough yet.

May be its not an answer to your question, this could help if someone using mac have the problem of the auto-login...
for MAC OS X users, sometimes de vbulletin 3 gives this problem, the auto-login, it seems that the system is not keeping the data for security reasons. This bug is fixed when you make all the software updates in the System Preferences (the security ones).
Cheers.

Auto-login works perfect. You do need to keep cookies though. Maybe for you. If I click on "log-out" I get the msg "Cookies cleared" . No choice there!
Just click the Thread Tools menu button at the top of the first post in a thread. Thanks. I totally missed that.
Cut and paste also works perfectly either using the keyboard or the browser menus. SOMETIMES not with rt-click. NEVER using the paste icon in the reply window.
XP: Some of the 'helpful' functions are a real pain!
Thanks ;-)

If you logout it will clear the cookie. It's supposed to. The security is better on this software. Otherwise just don't logout, then your cookie remains and the site will recognize you when you come back.

Yeah, can be until you get used to it. I love XP though...

Just FYI.. to elaborate a little,.. if you are inactive.. you do get "logged out" ie:.. your name will go away from the "who's online" list.. so not logging out with the button is not a bad thing.
The "log out" button is to log you out while still connected to the forum... it is not necesary to use it when leaving the forum.
The toehr use for the "log out" button is so that other users on your PC will not have the chance to be "autologged onto the forum with your ID.

Oh yes.. the cut and paste issue using the mouse right click is only and issue if you are using the "advanced wysiwyg" text editor,. which is an option (I beleive probably the default) in your user control panel. Something about the "enhanced" features precludes the mouse right click from working as well.
If you chose one of the other text editor options.. this problem with right click copy and paste will go away.
Or you can use keyboard .. or you can highlight text and select "Edit" "copy" from the drop down menu in your browser.
Personally I too am too addicted to right click so I chose another editor option.

re: XP.. there is lovely little setting in XP that makes it look and behave more like Win98/Win2K.... you may want to try that,.. it helped me a lot.

Thanks.
I wonder if I'm going to keep getting duplicate messages in our email, or if it can be fixed & will stop at some time? Since I left the forum earlier today, I have 3 Not for the feint of heart.; 2 Back in the action - Rally Pics; 2 Raw windows vewier; 2 Lion cubs [5 imgs]; 2 Prince Harry and THAT photo.
