I have a couple old, cheap tripods that I wouldn't even consider putting my 10D and 100-400 lens on ... I really doubt they could hold the weight.
Not having a clue what to look for in a tripod, I've been doing a lot of research from the number of posts here on what tripods are good and finally, after a few weeks of searching, I recieved my new tripod yesterday.
I bought the Manfrotto 3221WN Wilderness tripod and the Manfrotto 3047 3 way pan head. (actually, it's my Christmas present from my wife :)
I've only set it up in the house so far but this thing is made with very good quality and very sturdy (my wife says it's nice but she will not allow me to leave it set up as a piece of furniture/art work)
I can't believe how tall this thing is when set up! I may have to get a stool to stand on to use it when it's at its max height.
Anyway ... That's one of the great things about belonging to a forum with such knowledgable people, and for that ... Thanks!
