Hi:
I have Canon 20D and 75-300 telefoto lens. I did search for tripods but the selection is so great that I wanted to ask for some recomendations. I would like not to spend more than 100$.
Thank you all for all the ideas!!!

I just got the Bogen-Manfrotto 728B. Compact, light and seems quite sturdy.
B&H Photo has it for $113:

Thank you Jack.
I am rather fresh in photograpy equipment. I checked this link and I like that tripod.
Can you explain how a reversible center column for low-angle shots works??
does that mean that you can flip the camera under the tripod??

I have one also, it will hold a 20D and a 75-300 with no problems.

Reversable column=yes to your question.
I spent the last couple of months looking at tripods. The reason I picked this one is that I wanted something easy to carry, but not junk. I received a Sigma 80-400 IS lens today which weighs in at 3 1/2 pounds. This pod will hold the lens/camera no problem. On a windy day, I wouldn't recommend leaving it unattended (any tripod for that matter).
The weather is lousy here today, so no chance to test out the whole setup (especially the lens). Hopefully tomorrow.
B&H Photo has an excellent reputation, so if you should buy this one and not like it for any reason, B&H is good about returns.

Check out the Velbon Chaser EFL-4 (about$80) I have one I use with a Giottos Med ball head fitted with an Arca-Style kirk quick release plate to use as my light travel tripod. Very light, small and packable, but sturdy enough to be really steady. Mark

Thank you Jack!
I also want to play a little with panorama, and I was wondering if there is any need to have a bubble level on the tripod head???
There are some tripod heads designed specially for panorama but they are way out of my price range.
