I'm not sure if these are the first pics ever about floorball in this forum. Please let me know what you think and maybe some tips and tricks how to improve. This was my first time shooting sports.

Equipment used was Canon 20d and 75-300 usm is. All shots are ISO 800.

wow i must admit i had no idea what sport this was based on the description, but the pictures show me its very much the same to what we would call 'floor hockey' here in canada. am i on the right track? looks like a serious league too based on the fact that there is advertising on the floor boards and unifroms being worn by both teams and the referee.

shots are nice and sharp and it appears you have some good to decent lighting to work with. looks like a tough sport to shoot because it seems like a small field of play and its basically like hockey but without the hitting. getting some 'expressions' on the players faces would add to the shots. try to shoot from where the action is heading, like in basketball shooting from the baseline close to the bucket because thats where the players are generally looking. although it looks like it might be a bit dangerous from behind the net if you can even shoot from there.

#5 looks good except all the players are looking at the other corner, if the ball was in the corner you were in it would be ten times better. i would like to see more shots from the next time you shoot a game.

Do you best to avoid shooting at peoples backs...it loses a lot of the action present...Id stick near the goals and shoot people coming towards you...

This isn’t the new kayak water polo is it? I was thinking of moving to the UK and going pro-photog for that :( i cant keep up with todays world...

You got it right. Floorball is basically hockey on floor. Rough body contact is allowed but no hitting. The game is growing extremely rapidly in Europe and has challenged hockey as number one sport as a hobby in Scandinavia. As a TV-sport it still has a long way to go.

Floorball has a WC status with Finns, Swedes and Czechs being the common quarterfinalists in World Championship games.

These shots are from a weekend cup in Finland with partisipants from every other level but the professional national league. Btw, there are typically two referees on the court if the game is of any official level.

Thats a good hint of trying to shoot the faces. I was wondering why all the shots looked so dull but they were lacking the expressions. Thanks. There is a small problem though, the ball may reach huge speeds (easily over 150km/h) with a proper slapshot. So shooting from behind the net has its risks.

Thanks for the tip! Trying to get the faces on pics really makes the shots more intresting, I'd think. I still have to come up with the courage needed to shoot from behind the net.

Wow. Another new sport. I'm vertainly going to seek out this floorball malarkey in the UK!!

Blinking8s is right about positioning yourself to shoot the players as they come towards you to capture their expressions... Perhaps you could invest in a helmet if you're going to shoot from behind the goal?? I know that a number of the ice hockey shooters who take pics from the penalty box (i.e. where there's no plexi-glass to protect them) wear helmets... But I suppose this depends on just how much floorball you're going to shoot!

But thanks for introducing us to yet another new sport!

thanx for the explanation on the floorball over there. now when it makes its way over here i can pretend i know somthing about it ;)

I'm not that worried about getting hurt myself. I play myself so I catch a slapshot or two in every match. Usually you'll get a nasty ball shaped bruise to remind you by, painful but you get used to it.

My main concern is the camera. Does anyone have a educated guess about the possible damage a fairly light (some 20-30 grams) but fast moving (150-200km/h) plastic ball could do to the camera? I'd think the chassis itself won't mind but the lenses are a different story?
