I took a bunch of jpegs and RAW images with my 20D yesterday and I can only import the jpegs. I tried it in Elelements 2 and tried it with the camera and scanner wizard, but it only reads the jpegs. What's going on? I think I imported some RAW images last week just to try it, but it's not reading them anymore. Help please!

You need a DPP with lastest update or EOS Viewer Utility with latest update to read RAW' file from Canon 20D. You can also get one from Bibble from Bibblelab or Breeze Browser from Breeze Systems. You have to wait for C1 from Phaseone, they have not updated for Windows version, but they do have one forMac version of C1.

Raw files acan only be viewed/converted etc in applications made to do so.
The CDs that came with your 20D have those applications on them (DPP)

I just reinstalled the Canon EOS Solution Disk and while doing that I noticed I may have overlooked some of the programs on it. So I installed these and nothing has changed. It still only reads the jpegs. Is this the software that you are talking about?

Is EOS Capture the program to upload RAW onto the computer? When I try to use this, it says it can't recognize the camera. I'm getting frustrated!!!!!

Canon has a problem with the software. I loaded and reload it three times and it still cant see the Camera. So I called Canon and they can not solve the problem. I diregard it now. I put my CF card in a reader or burn a disk on my roadstor.

Is there any other "affordable" software out there for this purpose? It's good to know Canon is on the ball!

BreezeBrowser from www.breezesys.com
PS CS with the latest Adobe Camera Raw Plug In
Capture 1 from Phase One
Bibble
You can eliminate most (for me all) of the problems with the Canon software by using a card reader rather then the camera, to transfer files.

You're looking on the wrong disc. DPP is not on the EOS solutions disc. You should have another CD in a black sleeve, which is DPP. My 20D came with v1.1, but there is an upgrade available online to get you to v1.5.

I have the 1.5 version installed already (I didn't know what you meant by DPP). What do I do next? I've had this installed all along, but I don't see any mention of it importing anything.

DPP is not a bad tool. I've been using it since November. I've been waiting since November for the windows version of C1 3.6. It was supposed to be out mid December and that slipped to mid January. Still no C1....
Anyone have comments on Bibble?

DPP = Canon Digital Photo Professional, a program to convert RAW files (with the CR2 extension) to a standard file format such as TIFF or JPEG. You should have gotten it on a CD together with your 20D.

I still can't get DPP to see the RAW files. Somebody on another forum uses the Canon Viewer software to convert them to TIFF. I finally got that program to bring up the thumbnails, but I can't do anything with them. It says it can't preview the selected image and doesn't even give me the option to convert or save them.
What card readers do you recomend? I saw some on Ebay for around $5. Are these any good? Does this bypass all the crap I'm going through? How do they work?

I had the similar problem, and I purchased a card reader to download all the raw images.

What card reader should I get? I use 1 gig type 1 CF cards.

I use a Dazzle all-in-one USB 2.0, about $30 from B&H. The key there is USB 2.0. If you're computer is newer than about 2 years old, you should definitely have it. The older USB is 1.1 and it is painfully slow compared with 2.0. I can offload my entire 1Gb card is about a minute and a half with my 2.0 reader, and with my older 1.1 reader it took about 10-15 minutes.

Get an USB 2.0 card reader and make sure this logo is on the package:
http://www.usb.org/images/headermain/hi_speed.gif
Note the red "Hi-Speed" part on the label. That means it's an USB 2.0 high-speed device. There are also card readers (although probably rare) that say they have an USB 2.0 interface, but not high-speed.
Ofcourse your computer should also have USB 2.0 ports, it will work slowly (you can connect an USB 2.0 device to an older USB 1.1 port, but it will be really slow).
