has anybody ever heard of this flash? I am hoping it will work on my Rebel. Not really sure if I am ready to shell out the money for a canon flash yet, so got this one to play with.

You do realize that the wrong flash on your camera could actually dmage it?

I'd be very carefull...

You can use an auto thyristor flash on a Canon digital camera as long as you take certain precautions. You need to put a Wein Safe Sync between the camera hot shoe or PC socket and the flash to prevent damage to the shutter and flash circuitry. I have used old Nikon flashes in this way with my G2 and 10D without a problem. You also have to know how to use an auto thyristor flash. The f stop on the camera and flash have to be the same and correct for the distance the subject is from the camera. So you are either in M mode or Av.

Thanks for the information. Is there a Flash that is reallitivly cheap that works on the Digital Rebel besides the speedlites from canon becasue I don't have the money for one of them yet...
and not for sure if I really am going to need it yet. Thanks again for any help.

Hi, I have the same flash, and the Digital Rebel as well. Thanks for the info on getting the safe sync...they certainly didn't mention that at the camera store! They did give me a good run down on what the white blue and red dots mean and how to set the slider on the back, but it seemed so intuitive I didn't pay enough attention and promptly forgot. Does anyone know where I can find a quick how-to of this flash? I did a google search (that's how I found this thread), but didn't come up with anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
thanks.

Reference the Model 90MDT-Z FLASH. I have one in the original box and also with the instruction sheet. Actuallu there are two instruction sheets. One is
Titled Thyristor Dedicated Instructions and the other Multi-Dedicated Computer Flash for Canon/Minolta/Nikon and Pentax.

If anyone is interested I will scan and email them to you. I also have no use for the flash so will selll it for $25.00.

Hope this helps someone.............Don

Since there are a lot of questions on the 90BDT-Z I went ahead and scannned the instruction sheets. Should help.........Don

It only lets me download 2 files so I still have three pages. Let me know if you want them all and I will email them to you.

Thanks sooooo much, been looking for that for an hour now. :) I am obsessed with having documentation for all my equipment :)

Been using this flash on an ebay trigger/receiver for about a year now (actually works very reliably in this setup - MUCH more-so than my Speedlite 420EX in the same setup, but that's another story...).

Decided to search for a manual for the Albinar - thanks for posting it, even if it was quite awhile back :)
