Just wanted to post something as a hello to the boards. Been lurking for a while, picking up as much information as I can. Still learning with my new 300D toy. Right now I am just sporting the kit lens. 28-135 IS on the way soon I hope (I have horrible shakey hands). The detail in the photo is really lost when shrunk down. Much better full size. I need to look into noise reduction though.

Question UV filters help with lens flare correct? what exactly do polarizing filters do? I am reading through several tutorials. Havent gotten that far but if you look at some of the other nature one in the gallery they are plagues with lens flares as well.

Here is the pic.

Welcome :)

That fog photo has a cool effect, and I like the stream one too. Actually I like all 5 - the path type ones lead the eye around the picture nicely :)

UV filter might help with lens flare if your lens has cheap coatings on it. Better is a lens hood. Polarizing filters work like polarising sunglasses, they only let in light from one angle. It makes the photos darker, but cuts reflections in water and windows. Might be better to post the question in the camera gear part of the forum, you'll get more replies :)

welcome, nice shot!

Man oh man there was some thick fog one day this week, I was looking through the window at work wishing that I had the camera with me. It was real thick though... twilight zone kind of thick :-P

Thanks for the compliments. The UV filter question just popped in my head as I was posting. I have since answered my question. One of the main things I fear is the 28-135 I want uses 72mm filters. they dont come cheap.

The fog here was insane. At some points that day you couldnt see 100ft in front of you.
