======

Thank you for your patience. Due to family function I couldn't do my judging duties last night. Thanks also for joining me in this little challenge. I hope this challenge would inspire you (& me) to take more pictures of our earthy creations.

Here're some of my humble comments on your pictures.

rpolitsr - ripening red
I like this image very much; it has many attributes - great control of DOF, beautiful texture, as well as wonderful defused light. Was flash used at all for this shot?

Maureen Souza - Red, Red Wine.......Grapes!
"Red, red wine
Stay close to me
Don`t let me be alone
It`s tearin` apart
My blue, blue heart"
I wish UB40 would have found this image for their album cover. I like what you have done here and the title is just perfect!!!

teekay - Skunk Cabbage
Not sure this is classified as a vegie? But I like the acrylic colours treatment you gave to the image. Please give me the recipe.

smace - Untitled (icy water with a slice of lemon)
I acually enjoyed the patal colours in the image. I wish I could see more portion and texture of the lemon slice.

BottomBracket - The Transaction
I love the great view point from here. The swivel LCD is one reason I still use G6! Apart from the sight and sound in the market place, I could smell the freshness of the fruits and the seafood prodcuts from here. Mangoes and sticky rice with a dash of coconut milk is one of my favourite dessert.

BobsYourUncle - Christmas stocking mandarin from 2003
Now this mandarin must have some significant meaning for uncle Bob. Can we make a five years old liqueur out of it? Is the narrow DOF intensional?

marie - wild cherries
I'll let Cadbury-Schweppes know about this image - I think they are looking an image on their wrappers for their new product of cherries & white chocolates!!! Delicious fruit and image.

Kevan_G9 - 3.14159 = pi; so do blueberries...
My second favourite dessert pie apart from apricot pie... but alright since you have included the ice-cream. Can I have a bite Pleeeeaaase!

papajake - Untitled
Great close-up hence great detail and texture of the strawberries. It shows how the new G9 is capable of in Macro mode. Please summit it earlier to qualify the top place.

And the winners are:-

1st - rpolitsr's ripening red
2nd - Maureen Souza's Red, Red Wine.......Grapes!
3rd - marie's wild cherries

My pic was the result of playing around and entering for fun since I don't have a G-series any more and had a very limited stock of veggies in my G1 archives. These plants are denizens of the rain forest here on the west coast and plentiful around jungly pools and swamps. They do stink but parts can be used for food. I like their weird, exotic look. Here's the image without the rather excessive effects I applied.

marie - wild cherries
I'll let Cadbury-Schweppes know about this image - I think they are looking an image on their wrappers for their new product of cherries & white chocolates!!! Delicious fruit and image.

when you get in touch with Cadbury -Schweppes  I'd like a bar of that new chocolate you've mentioned... sounds delicious
yum yum
it has not arrived here yet

I never used to like cherries but now I chop them up and use them when baking special buns ,along with adding ground almonds, chopped walnuts, diced coconut , spoonful or two of runny honey ,muscovado rich brown sugar and eggs
love the cherries (done that way) when cooked the mixture has a kindof shortbread (y) nutty(of course) taste

sometimes I add a (s) mashed banana

the cherries I had for the photograph were very very sticky
I had put them on a white dish on a table in the garden for the picture, their juices running wild

gorgeous shots from everyone

someone went to a lot of trouble putting the pastry stars on that delicious looking blueberry pie Kevan

that cabbage you show Teekay
Sandy (Stonylonesome) had photographs on the forum of the same type of cabbage some time ago , they grow near him too ( I think in his backyard)
would have you believe ....... why the skunky smell...............
lol

looks very good. lovely picture, and you done a lovely job on it with the pp , its almost like 'mother -in laws tongue'

Congratulations to the winners, they were all great shots, difficult to pick out three.
I've had a bit of a busy week this week - my sister and niece are staying with me for a few weeks, I managed to get a couple of shots taken when my organic fruit and veg box was delivered on Wednesday, then they turned up on Thursday so that was as far as I got! Hopefully I'll get some time to contribute again for the next challenge (although I'm not holing my breath, lol)

Kevan_G9's blueberries made my mouth water

I admit it, I'm not too proud...when I saw rpolitsr's rotten apple, I knew the contest for 1st place was over. Or was it? That's when I conspired to aim for Boutty's stomach, deverting his attention from all the splendid photos, and instead appeal to his more passionate desire for a piece of my wife's blueberry pie. And it almost worked!

What a hoot this challenge was. I totally enjoyed myself taking photos with my little G9. Here's one that I was originally considering:

So...I guess all I have left to say here is, "Boy, was it good!"

Congratulations to the co-winners Maureen and marie
All the entries are beautiful and interesting pictures, so congratulations to all the participants.

Thank you Boutty, for choosing my picture, I will do my best with the new challenge (Yes, that is always the hard part but it is also rewarding).
I will post it before Wednesday noon GMT, in less than 10 hours or so.

My apple is another picture on the beautiful farm of a friend of mine, pretty near from Quito.

This time, it was late afternoon with the sun low in front of me, but hidden behind tiny white clouds and filtered by the leaves.
No flash. The ‘fill light’ comes from bright white clouds behind me, while above my head there was a clear blue sky.

Now, off to think about the new theme!

( I always loved the stocking fillers

Theres a story behind this Christmas 2003 mandarin::lol:

I took it out of my stocking and forgot to eat it. It wound up back under the tree and left there into the new year. When we took the tree down it wound up in a pile of misc. stocking stuffers in my office, where it was forgotten for a couple months. Some time later, I picked it up and noticed it was very light, but still in shape. So I put it on the shelf by my computer and observed it over the next few months.

Well, the orange completely dried out without rotting at all. It did not go soft and mushy, but rather went hard as a rock! It is totally dried out and very light, and so hard I could likely break a window with it.

So it became kind of a novelty, or an ornament on my shelf. I wrote Xmas 2003 on it so I would remember what year it was from.

Now when the fruit and veggie contest came along, I pondered what I could use to enter, as I have not posted a contest pic for several weeks.

I was in a big hurry and very busy so I grabbed the mandarin, set it on my desk on a piece of paper and banged off a few quick shots, trying to get the light semi-acceptable. The shallow DOF is only because I didn't take the time to shoot it properly

No chance of making anything with it except an ornament!!

I knew it was not contest quality, but hoped a few people would get a chuckle out of it

Rafael, I loved your apple shot the moment I saw it and hesitated even entering this week. (Not bad that a couple of Mods came in 1 &2, huh? ;););) )

Boutty, thanks for 2nd place...it's always lovely to place and not have to host:D

And congrats marie...those cherries look luscious.

I am happy to have my Pro 1 up and running again.

No not bad at all. Sometimes a bit of luck pushes my picture slightly above my own level and it gets the place. At least that is possible on this side of the door. On the ‘Mod’s rooms’ the Goddess of POTN rules above the new mods. :)
Thank you Maureen for your comment and for your help and support on the challenges and on the moderator’s forums. Learning never ends.

Honestly, I like the uncropped version and its almost luminous green leaves. I’m wondering if we have something similar in our evergreen rain forest. The name ‘Col de Mofeta’ which happen to be a literal translation of ‘skunk cabbage’ exist in Spanish dictionaries, but I never heard of it and can not find where to read about it yet.

. . . That's when I conspired to aim for Boutty's stomach, deverting his attention from all the splendid photos, and instead appeal to his more passionate desire for a piece of my wife's blueberry pie. And it almost worked!. . .
:) :). Thank you Kevan. The little G9s and the people behind them delivers a hard pressure over the old Pro1 even with the advantage of its awesome L lens.

In the low wet areas of the Northeast skunk cabbage is one of the first plants to show itself in the early spring. The plant does get a bit of a bum rap with the fact that it does smell if you pull and tear the leaves, but it really is a very handsome plant and a pleasure to see come to life as the last days of the cold weather melt away.

Hey congratulations to winners rafael, Maureen, and Marie, all heavyweights of the G forum! Thanks to Boutty for a well run challenge. Lots of great photos all around! My photo was just a grab shot, with my G6 dialed for hyperfocal focusing for the quick street shot. It was taken at a busy sidewalk here at NYC, and I used the swivel screen to frame the scene whilst the camera was at arm's length above my head. Gotta love those swivel screens! ;)

In the low wet areas of the Northeast skunk cabbage is one of the first plants to show itself in the early spring....

My research shows that the eastern skunk cabbage is a different species from ours in the northwest, and images found for rafe's "Col de Mofeta" seem to look more like the eastern version than ours.

Getting a bit away from photography here, but sometimes that's the best part about these challenges - maybe one of us can set "Any variety of skunk cabbage" as a POTN challenge some time in future ;)

Western Skunk Cabbage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Skunk_Cabbage), Lysichiton americanus, commonly known as "skunk cabbage" on the western coast of the United States and in the United Kingdom

it had to have meaning. great story Bob
(and coincidence, it was the same year I took the cherries shot with the G2 )

lol

funny how it didn't rot right through
even today mandarins in a bowl go blue with mold (lol) and rot quickly
if not eaten a.s.a.p

maybe 2003 was a good ( better) year for fruities
