Hi...

I am new and I need to inquire on a 480EX flash that i bought as a standby unit to my Sigma Super 500 DG flash.

1. I realised that the 480EX flash does not throw out a Focus Assist light, unlike my Sigma 500 DG. I checked with my friend's 550EX unit, and it does throw out a Focus Assist light when focusing. Is it normal or is my 480EX faulty?

Help....

thx.

Since there's no such thing as a 480EX flash, I'm not sure if anybody will be able to help you out. However, since the only 4x0 EX flash that is comparable to the 500 DG and 550EX is the 420EX, I'm goint to assume that that is what you are talking about. If that is the case, then, yes, it is supposed to emit an focus assist light.

Ooops...

Yes so sorry, it's supposed to be 420EX. Thanks for the correction. I have tested and there isn't a focus assist lamp. I'll have to send it in for servicing then. :o

What camera,. what settings?

If you are in AIservo it may never fire the assist lamp?

Since XAER said that the focus assist lights work on the 550EX and the 500 DG, I assumed that the 420EX was tested under the same conditions but you do make a good point about the focus assist lights not working in AIServo mode. Thanks for that clarification. :)

Hi thanks for all the help.

I just returned from Canon Service Centre and tested it against another 420EX and found out that the AF Assist Lamp should light up! So the unit I am holding is faulty. Thanks again guys!

Cheers!
