Yesterday my D30 would NOT display the aperature in the LCD or the viewfinder. It had "00" for the aperature. The "00" was there regardless of what mode I put the camera in.
I called a friend at a camera store & we were going through the settings, nothing I hadn't already been through before. All of a sudden the REAL aperature appeared in both the LCD & the view finder.
Anyone have any ideas what happened?

While you were at the camera store, did you take the lens off and put it back on? Maybe the contacts on the lens were very slightly dirty and so they weren't making good contact with the body.
Just a thought,

Lee,
I could have. I tried everything I could think of ....... I do remember taking the lens off but I don't think it started working again right then.... Kind of like taking your car to the shop for a noise and then it won't make the noise in the shop.
Thanks Much......

It sounds like the contacts on the lens weren't lined up perfectly with the camera. This is the way to cheat manual aperture control of video on the T1i, if you set the aperture, press the depth of field preview button, and then rotate the lens just a tiny tiny bit, it will lock the aperture in place and it will only display a 00 for the aperture value as well as will prompt you to make sure the lens is properly attached. It could have been off a very small amount and as you were fiddling with it it could have moved just enough to get it to register, I wouldn't worry much about it!

I would like to bring to the floor an acceptable mode of public humiliation for people who bump threads that are almost a decade old. Perhaps something along the lines of changing their avatar to a giant picture of Ken Rockwell...

Haha I just thought it might be funny... I looked at the most burried thread and just thought it was interesting to see how old the gear was and the issues they were going through. What I found more interesting is to see that most of the users in the oldest posts have very low post counts, which lead me to assume that the popularity of the forum has been that of steady growth. Most of this probably has to do with the fact that DSLRs have gained popularity over the past decade. Regardless, I see no reason for "public humiliation". It was just done in good fun.
