I thought I'd had that argument for the last time once the kids moved out.:)

I am in receipt of my 70-200/2.8 IS L and so far I'm pretty much in love. Haven't been plagued with the famous lock up problem yet and keeping my fingers crossed. (I have often wondered if that one has something to do with aiming the lens too close to the sun...)

Anyway, I was more than slightly surprised when I opened the package and discovered that this 'white' lens - isn't white! It's kind of light beige. Has there been some sort of design decision up in the anals of the optical masters at Canon?

The build quality is certainly exactly what I expected, and I'm not terribly upset or anything, but - BEIGE?!?

I went through the same thing with my first L lens purchase. They are all the same color, and it's not white.

It's white enough, in my opinion. :)

Maybe beige is just the protective layer. You have to peel it off to get to the "real stuff" white layer.

I haven't tried with mine yet, but then again I like beige... and the lens produces "L" enough quality to me, so I don't bother waisting time on peeling all day long :-)

Happy peeling...

I've decided they're Caucasian ... but do not worry - calling them "white" is not considered politically incorrect.
