The shot is underexposed, try use a tripod or find somewhere you can sit the camera on and use a longer exposure with smaller aperture.

Cheers sGu, the camera was mounted on a tripod, i did try longer exposure time but the image becam over exposed. admittedly this was just a first try. i have had some poor results with the G5 in low light anyone got any suggestions as to how to get around this ? or did i goof up and should have bought a 300D

I think the G5 is a very capable camera in the right hands. The shot is just a little underexposed. Depending on how much of a photo purist you are, I would adjust the EC(in the software if the g5 shoots raw) and any overexposure on certain areas could be overcome with the help of PS.

I don't know what your settings were but off the top of my head, i would have tried

f11 and held maybe 10 sec (maybe longer) shutter for starters and adjusted from there.
