View Full Version : Will my camera bag setup harm my camera? (pic included)

So, I have been wondering about this for a while. I've been carrying my camera this way for a bit. And, I'm not sure if it would put undue stress on the camera or lens in this orientation. Or, is this just fine? Note the camera sits at the top of the bag when it's on my back (as you will see in this shot...I apologize that it's so washed out, but I took it with my P&S and direct flash).

Thanks in advance

Should be fine ... I see no reason for concern. Mine looks much the same, except that I have a velcro strap that draws the two panels closer together on either side of the lens (helping to better support both sides of the camera body).

Just like the bag was designed for.

As far as I remember the vendor recommends that really big lenses such as the 100-400 L is detached from the camera. Smaller lenses should be fine.

You need more stuff in that bag! :) I've got more lenses and equipment in my MicroTrekker! You've got the space, you do realize that you are obligated to fill it don't you!? :) Seriously, camera looks fine. Mine is much the same. You might try to get a little more support for the camera body, like Jay said, but I wouldn't worry about it much.

lol I prefer to pack my bag with very little room, just cushion and stuff, no air.

Camera bag looks similar to my Tamrac Expedition 3. It's a great backpack!

Really? I'm looking at getting the LowePro DryZone 200 so that I may be able to leave my 100-400 L on the body during transport (wilderness canoe travel). I've got a LowePro Mini Mag at the moment but it doesn't fit the mentioned lense, so I leave the 17-85 on the body and carry the 100-400 L in the Canon case that it came in.

OK, I've got a Minitrekker (as in the first picture) with a RebelD, 70-200, 17-40, 24, 85, 24-85, 28-105, 420EX, and ass loads of hoods, cards, cleaning cloth, and assorted junk and I still have room. In what way can you possibly be worried about the bag hurting the camera? You've got so much room in there you can probably get an echo. :)

Now take the camera out the bag and go get some photos.

Tommy, do you remember where you read that? I always leave my 100-400 attached to the camera in the bag because there's no other way to carry them and all the other lenses and stuff I have in the bag so I'd like to know for sure if I'm doing a no-no here.

I just checked the lowepro site, but they have changed the layout so I can't find where I read it. I am almost sure I read it with the product specifications but maybe its not an issue?

How about this setup - Lowepro Nova 5 bag.

I like to leave the hood on my lenses if possible.

... and with the 20D removed showing what is under it:
http://www.fotos-files-forums.net/fotos/Camera_Stuff/CRW_4384.jpg

Normally my film body (EOS300) goes in the area where the neck strap is, and usually below the 50 is my off-camera shoe cord or spare batteries.

I intend to sort out a bit better how I store the lenses. In particular trying to allow enough room to leave the hood on the lens (especially that 17-40) when stored means such huge openings required. I notice you guys all take the big hoods off for storage in the bag. I reverse the 100-300, and don't bother with the 28-105s as it is a small hood anyway.

In the top middle is 28-105, below it the 50, and top right is the 100-300, with flash below it.

I notice that almost none of the pics show lenses without any extra bag, sleeve or pouch.
I know that with my 17-40L i got a pouch which i use to store it inside my mini trekker, is this really needed?
Are the lenses safe to be placed directly in the main bag?

I also have the Canon backpack and love it. Only criticism I have read is "Canon" logo invites theft. Well, so far I have not run into any thieves. Perhaps the thieves are looking for "Tamrac" or "Lowepro" or....

I don't use the pouches. Just an extra hassle. I'd probably only use it if I was storing the lens out of a case for a while (just to keep dust at bay).

Hi all, one question.

I'm due to make some lens purchases in addition to my collection (Minus the 18-55)
This comprises of : Tamron SP AF 90mm Di Macro, Tokina ATX-Pro 17mm and Canon 35mm F2.0.

My question is : would all of my gear fit in a Lowepro Nova 5 AW ? I have the Lowepro MicroTrekker 200 at the minute, but I want a shoulder bag.

Cheers Gary.
