Ok so I have the faintest chance of maybe being able to afford to sell my 20D and upgrade to the 1DMk2. The Mk2 has been my dream camera ever since it's release and I should be jumping up and down with excitment at the prospect of owning one. One niggling thought though...I remember reading somewhere that there was a possibility of Canon releasing a full frame maybe 11 Mpixel sometime later this year? When I bought the 10D I assured my wife that I wouldn't have to buy another camera for years to come, 3 months later the 20D came out and of course the 10D was straight on eBay! My main reason for wanting to move on from the 20D is the 1.6 factor, having 1.3 on the M2 is I feel the best I'm going to be able to afford for a good couple of years..UNLESS? Oh dear! maybe I should just get the 1DMkII and be satisfied like of course I should and stop worrying about what's going to around 10 months from now!

Whilst on the subject, can any of you from the UK recommend the best place to order from, best price, service etc.

Thanks.

I was/am in the same position as you: love my 10D but coveting full-frame. I bit the bullet and now I have a 1Ds Mk II on order. Ouch. Since I've had work published in magazines, I wanted to up my res and I figured it was worth investing in this beast of a camera.

I'm not going to get rid of my 10D, it's still an excellent camera and I'm looking forward to having two bodies so there's no lens swapping when I'm on a shoot.

DSLRs have become like computers, you know that whatever you buy, it'll be superseded soon. I expect in three or four years time people will have 16.7Mpix on their mobiles or something silly like that. So, it's tempting to play the waiting game. But if you wait, you always have to ask yourself about the work you could be doing while you're waiting round for the ultimate.

As for prices, I've found that that London Camera Exchange shops do their best to price-match. I've spent quite a bit at my local branch so I generally get good service/prices. To be honest, I'd never buy a 1 series body mail-order because I want that local presence in case of any problems. (That's not knocking anyone who uses mail-order, I just prefer the personal touch.)

Only you know if you should upgrade. And you know the answer is yes. I went from the 10D to the MKII in Nov. Yes the 10D is a great camera and it did enable me to make some $ so I could afford to upgrade. Having said that, I have not looked back at all. this is a beast of a different nature. Images are excellent and the high frame rate never misses a pic. Don't listen to any one who tells you the images are soft on the MKII. This is a professional camera and to get the pro results you need to do a little work in photoshop. then the images pop. This will be a keeper for many years to.

You will notice less of a difference coming from the 20D than I did.
Good luck with the struggle.
