Just received the 24-70 and spent the day with it. Surprisingly all the photos have a yellowish/golden tint to them, in most cases it's very pronounced, in others less obvious (but still there). Anybody have an idea why is that. Do other owners of the lens have the same experience.
Also, the pictures aren't sharp. The kit lens (17-55) produce sharper images.
Setting:
ISO 100
AV
Fast shutter speed (as I was shooting in bright daylight)
AWB
As you can imagine, I'm rather disappointed with the lens. So would appreciate any advice.
Thanks

Have you tried the new lens on a different body? If the problem remains I would contact Canon Customer Service and inquire there. Sounds like you have a bum lens. I love my 24-70 and have no problems with it so far. Sorry. You were not shooting into the sun with out the hood. If you did that you might be seeing lens flare. Hope this helps.

Didn't think of that. Thanks, will try it on the Rebel. And yes, I was using the hood.

Come to think of it, the problem is with the lens not the camera as other lenses work fine with this cam.

Have you tried using a custom white balance? like tungsten or sunlight?

Hi Doc,
No I didn't. I was thinking it's a WB thing but all pics were taken in daylight so thought AWB should be fine.

Nobody knows what's wrong with that lens. Any suggestion.

AAM,
I feel sorry for you!
That's really too bad.
Take a look at this thread: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=51644
It's referring to the Tamron 28-75 /2.8 XR DI, but the tests displayed in it are universal. Measure up your lens and decide whether you should send it back.
Some suggestions ... if the lens is unsharp wide open (2.8), it might be either general unsharpness or mis-focusing on your body. Do the ruler test.
Best regards,
Andy

Hi Andy,
The shots weren't taken even wide open, most were at f8 :(

The suggestion to try it on a different camera is still a good one, if you didn't do that. If it works on a different camera, you might have something wrong with the combination of the camera you are using it on and the lens. If it does the same thing, send it back. It's very hard for anyone on here to do more than sympathize with you on the problem. I have had the 24-70 2.8L (I assume you are talking about the Canon 24-70 2.8L lens and not another brand) for over a year and I have gotten excellent images with it... assuming I do my part and use it right.
Good luck.

Hi Mike,
Yes it's the Canon 24-70 L.

I'm leaning towards a bad lens, but you should try it on another camera to make sure.
Also, even though this might seem obvious, make sure you don't have a filter on it.

Hi Tom,
I think I'll do that (no filters were used). Also play with custom WB.
Thanks

And make sure it's in AF on the lens and not on MF.
