This is my first attempt of using your expertise. I have had a D30 for about 12 moths and have been very happy with it. Now I seen to have a problem.

When in raw and download from camera via Zoombrowser to computer everything is fine, but when using a compact flash reader or PCMCIA adaptor, placing the card from the camera to the readers then down loading to computer, the raw file reads 1440 x 990 file size about 3.9m instead of 8.9.

The image quility is poor and the size is smaller on the Photoshop screen at a 100% compared to the other files.

Here's hoping

Why are you downloading if you have a PCMCIA card? It will just be another drive on your computer. They only thing you need it to copy the DCIM directory to your hard disk.

Ron,

You are looking at the JPG version of the image, which is stored in addition to the raw one. Both are stored in the CRW file, but the full version which would be a 9mb 8-bit TIFF or an 18 mb 16-bit TIFF must be extracted with a converter.

I am not sure what software you are using to view the files, but 3.9mb sounds like the raw CRW file. The 960x1440 JPG are only about 250-300kb.

Do yourself a favour and stop using ZoomBrowser, cough up 35 bucks for BreezeBrowser. www.breezesys.com. It _will_ make your life easier. I would also get the free Downloader from the same site, this will download image from the camera or the PC card.

More info on these progams can be found in my workflow article http://www.rogercavanagh.com/library/t11_workflow.htm
