Found a couple more of this type, which I think is Sphaerophoria Scripta, this evening and I think one of them was about to lay eggs on the lavendar.

Obviously not the magnification like you would get from the mpe as these were taken with the 100m and not at 1:1 because a bumble kept getting in the way :lol:

thanks - yeah quite pleased with that one, there's lots more detail of the mouth than shows in the pic posted, so I might crop in a bit and see how it looks.

thanks Brian - I only saw one last year, but last night I saw a small handful which is nice. They are really difficult to see as they really are quite small and slender. Try looking in any lavendar that you have.
