is there a way to adjust the shutter timer on the 300d?
there are situations where I prefer to wait 3 sec rather than 10 sec all the time.

Are you referring to the timer by chance? You might look at getting the wireless remote.

not on the camera, no.
Like Hellashot mentioned, I think the wireless remote has a short delay like that.

Yeah, it's 2 seconds. I've found that it comes in handy.

Get the RC-1, it's only $25 and does a great job. It even attaches to your strap so it'll always be handy. It lets you shoot instantly or on a 2-second delay, and from a decent distance if you want to be in group photos. The control button works like the shutter on the camera so you can re-focus using the RC-1.
It works on the EOS 10s, Elan/II/IIE & 7/E, Rebel K2, Ti & T2, Digital Rebel and IX series cameras

RC-1, I have one and it's pretty convenient.

I assume the camera has a built-in receiver and doesn't need some other attachment to make this work?

yup - correct assumption
It works well on my camera (which is the same as yours). If you look carefully at the handgrip about 19mm below the shutter button you will see the receiver cover - a slight colour change on the grip.

That's correct, it's built into the hand grip.

Thanks vcutag.
Anyone know what's different between RC-1 and RC-5?

As I recall, the RC-5 has only the 2-second delay and can't be set to fire immediately.
