Does that exist? It's a real nitemare to figure out which hood fits on which lens, and I couldn't find any reliable info source on the web.
Adding to this that on a DSLR like my 20D lenses act more like telephotos and could (should?) accomodate a "narrower" type of hood, I'm really confused.
I dropped an email to Canon support with no feedback till now. Can you experts help ? :D

Hi Pierrot, if your asking what hood model # fits a lens that I have, I go to B&H and check the accessories list listed just under each lens description. Example; http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=12140&is=GREY

This chart (http://consumer.usa.canon.com/app/pdf/lens/EFLensChart.pdf) lists all Canon lenses and includes a column with the recommended lens hood.

AND Michigan...
If you have some hoods, put them on, if it's on a zoom use WA, set the cam to f-32 & hit the DOF preview & look at the corners of the pic frame to see if you get cut-off. Or take a pic of the sky & look at it on your computer.
They're running an ad on the History Channel for a program on the French Revolution, "You can love the French for a few days..." ;-)

You are right that longer lens hoods will work fine on the 1.6 cameras. Being silly one day, I put the lens hood from my 70-200 on my 16-35 and it didn't vignette until I was around 22mm or so! But this calls into question the effectiveness of ANY clip-on lens shade. With most lenses being zooms Canon (and everyone lese) has to make sure that they don't vignette at the widest focal length. So how effective can the shade be at the longest focal length?
Now these shades are better than nothing and I always have some kind of a shade on my lens. But the most effective lens shades are the bellows type hoods. They expand and contract depending on the focal length of the lens you are using, and you want them extended until they are just this side of vignetting. If you are continiously using the full zoom range of your lens - say shooting sports - then this might not be practible. But if you have the time to match focal length to bellows shade extension then you'll have a really effective shading tool.
I use the Lee bellows shade. It's much lighter than the Lindahl and won't stess out the Canon lenses with its weight. The Lindahl has rails and I scribed index marks on them so I knew how far to extend the bellows when I used it with specific lenses on my Mamiya 645. The Lee is self supporting, has no rails and requires more care since there are no rails to scribe. I wouldn't suggest the Lee for film cameras since it would be to easy to miss some vignetting until the film was processed. With digital review you'd have to be pretty blind not to see the problem.
In any case a good effective hood will give you increased contrast and kill off flare before it becomes a problem.

Hum, I didn't think of bellows till you mention them. May well be worth considering as far as I have plenty of time to shoot (and plenty of room in my bag, btw).
And it would surely look soooooo professional !
