I just picked up the Domke F4-AF, and I am in love!! I absolutely love that bag!! I am going to be taking a trip to the Pittsburgh Zoo, followed by a Pirates game with seats right behind the dugout next Wednesday, and I was wondering if the F-7, F-2, J-1, or the F-802 would be the best option to carry a 70-200 2.8, 100-400, and possibly the 24-105, which could be switched with the 24-70. could squeeze the lenses and my gripped 40D into F-4, but I would like to have the 70-200 and the 100-400 mounted, one on the 40D, and the other on my XTi.

I see SuzyView and Jon both like the F-802, and also that Jon recommends some custom insert work with the 720-230 and the 720-200... Can any body explain that to me...exactly how you would set that up. I would like to get all of the stuff I need ordered yesterday!!

I am sold on the Domke line, and it is the only bags I will be buying from now on. I used to think that Jon must have been paid a commission for recommending them... Now I see why!! I really love the F-2, but I think the height would be an issue with the line up I wish to have with me.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Mike

I wouldn't recommend the F-2 for that combo with both long lenses mounted, and in the bag. If you had one out for use, or mount one of the mid-range zooms while stowing gear, it would work. The F-7 and the F-802 are both deep enough to cope with both of those mounted, but you might not like the bulge you'd get with a gripped body in the F-802. The F-802 would also probably work better (assuming the grip bulge isn't an issue - it isn't for me) with the F-901 and/or F-902 pouches added to the ends (the pouches have velcro strips to attach to the F-802's wrap-around strap). The 720-230 3-compartment insert is right on the borderline of being able to accomodate the 70-200 2.8 or 100-400 hood. I have 2 of them that work; others don't like the fit (or maybe they want looser compartments than I do) and find a third-party insert more congenial (ISTR Tamrac?). I seriously doubt you'd be able to take the whole kit into the ball game though unless you know someone.
