Training camps are starting for most teams this week. And right around the corner is pre-season. The fun begins and I can't wait. :)

I hope to be attending the Panthers training camp this weekend and testing out my new Sigma 150-500 so I am even more excited.

So, do you have any training camp photos? Share them here.

I think vets report today for the Seahawks, but not sure.

I'd love to see some training camp shots from people in the Seattle area!

clear the 1/2 is cleveland - when you lose a team for a few years that means the replacement will never be a full team

Now when they say this on the Bronco's website, can I bring my 30D with the 70-200 lens or not????

Cameras: Still cameras will be allowed at the Broncos’ 2008 training camp, but video cameras will not be permitted. Only members of the media will be allowed to bring cameras with professional lenses and tripods to training camp.

Yeah, the Atlanta Falcons training camp,I know but they're the only Professional(HA!) team near me, has the same thing but underneath it it says this:
May I bring my camera to Training Camp?
Still cameras with lenses under 12” and without flash attachments are permitted for use during all training camp workouts at Flowery Branch. No flash photography of any type will be permitted at any time. No audio or video recording devices are allowed, including camcorders or cellular phones with video capabilities. Video taping during practice is strictly prohibited.

I'm going to print this out and if I get assaulted for my 1DmkII with my 70-200 f2.8 IS I can whip it out on them.

Uhm yeah, that's a long walk back to the car to leave the camera and white lens if you want in anyways. Sadly enough, the only guidelines the STAFF have must be of someone showing them some photogs from the press, and saying "Anyone looking like THESE, you keep out unless they have Credentials".

Give it a shot though, if I had to delete every photo I took before getting written permission, I'd be called "Two-Frame Joe".

Best of luck.

I'd personally shoot them an email asking why you can't shoot pictures with professional type equipment that you invested in since point and shoot cameras weren't something that interested you. Tell them that you personally felt that your hard earned money that you spend means a lot to you, just like the tickets you buy to watch quality football in Denver. Why would I spend money for something cheap when you wanted quality.

Express to them that with the cost of "professional type" digital SLR cameras coming down you're certain a lot of their fans are starting to buy this type of equipment and would really be disappointed if they got turned away just because they spent their hard earned money on something with better quality and versatility to take personal photos for the same price as a pocket camera. Which, by the way, has the technology to shoot videos just like the video cameras they don't allow while your dSLR doesn't pose such a threat.

Don't get nasty but just use some logic on them and see what kind of response you get. I bet they'll start scratching their heads and may rethink their stance if you point these things out(especially the video options on Point and Shoot cameras). Use the under 12" lens rule the Falcons allow as a possible example of something the general public might need to be offered.
Just throwing a suggestion out there. the worse they can say is no.....;)

Sorry for the n00b question but I couldn't find anything on the Buc's website about photo equipment. Does anyone here shoot the Buc's? I need to know if I'll be allowed to shoot with my 10D with grip and my 70-200 f/4L.

Also will the lens be a good enough focal range? How close do teams typically let you get?

They hold training camp in the stadium? If so I would suspect regular stadium rules would apply.
http://www.buccaneers.com/rjs/policies.aspx

No cameras with lenses longer than 12" and I suspect you'll be limited to the stands area. Might be time to invest in a 1.4 TC if not rent one or a 100-400 from a local shop.

I don't think that is the case. The Panthers site states:

A camera helps make the memory of a day at training camp permanent.

I have found nothing about any limitations they place on gear.

You may be able to get by with the 70-200 if it's at Disney. I doubt they have a large area behind any bench areas that would make the 70-200 too short. As long as you can get within 50 yards of the players you should be fine unless you can swing the extra and rent the lens for a day or two so you can get closer shots. !!Insured!! rentals are fairly reasonably priced. Notice I said INSURED! LOL

You may want to use the contact information on the Bucs website and inquire from them if they have any restriction on cameras at training camp other than the obviuos "no video camera" rules all teams have. I doubt Disney would restrict any cameras and would leave that up to whomever was renting the field but it wouldn't hurt to check.
Have fun and pack a sweat towel and some water! It gets sticky in Florida this time of year!

The wire service I am employed by has exclusive rights for all NFL images. I wasn't sure if the exclusivity was reserved for everything NFL or for in season images only. Just called my employer and got the ok. Pre-season training is not considered an exclusive since it's open to the public.

So that would be the "evil empire" for exclusive commercial usage - they don't have editorial exclusivity - what the contract says would determine what you can do with 'em.

Thanks for the kind words bud. I was shooting at iso 200, f/4, 1/3200. These are straight out of the camera. I'm not well versed in photoshop so I use Canon DPP and Photo Mechanic for all of my captioning and transmitting.

My 100-400 at 400mm is minimum f5.6 and it makes a hell of a difference obviously...I had to shoot at 400 and 800 ISO to get a decent shutter speed which was mostly 1/1600 - 1/2000. FYI... Chargers training camp is no longer photog friendly unless you are with the media. I was out there yesterday shooting for my employer and heard the Chrgers security staff lay into a guy who had a 28-135 and asked him to put it back in his vehicle. They were also telling people with point and shoots to put them away during the 5on5 7on7 and 11on11 drills. I think Norv Turner is still paranoid over spygate....

Question, please. I am going to Steelers camp this Sunday, and I haven't yet been able to afford the big glass; my longest lens is the 28-135 that came with the camera. (For the extra $100 or so, why not get the lens?) I thought long and hard about the lens that I really wanted, and got the 17-55 EF-S rather than one of the tele-zooms.

So, I know I can get some nice wide-angle shots with the 17-55, but I don't want to change lenses constantly... what should I expect with the 28-135? And can anyone offer any tips for maximizing composition and quality (besides "get as close as you can", LOL)?

Sure, the lens isn't an "L", but 135x1.6=216....

As of now he's not on the active roster. I haven't seen him practicing with the squad but then again I haven't been looking. I will keep an eye out for him today though. This could be an interesting story/angle if he makes the active roster.

LOL. Sometimes my 500mm on a 1.6 wasn't long enough.

But seriously, the 135 might offer you some portrait shots of the players as they come up close to sign autographs (get as close as you can ;)). Otherwise the only way you will get any action shots at 135mm is if they run off the field or the fence is extremely close to the field (not the case at the Panthers camp). Can you rent a lens for the day?

The typical shooting area for amateurs and fans is about 20-30 yards BEHIND the sideline...with VIPs and media in front of you. So anything less than 400mm would be hard for decent shots. But even with my 100-400, it was a royal pain because the people in front of you block most of the close action.

I situated myself on the 50 right next to the cordoned off area below the camera lift. That way, at least I had some kind of open space in front of me, but every camp is different.

Steelers camp...

I'm close to as green as you can get with this stuff. But I had a really great time with "the hobby of photography" yesterday! Anyone remember when you first started shooting pictures that you really cared about, but weren't sure how they were going to come out...? It was probably with film, too. Well, that little screen on the back of the camera STILL isn't a good enough indicator of what you are doing.

I shot most of 10G of pictures on full manual, other than the auto-focus. That is the first time I've ever done that, try to get the settings right myself. Today, after looking at them, I now realize the importance of "auto-exposure bracketing". Which of course I didn't do. Especially since the day was a mix of bright, BRIGHT sun and heavy clouds, some shots are dark, some are painfully bright, and some are just right (said Goldilocks).

Anyhow, it was "Family Day" for the Steelers. Here is one shot that I feel lucky to have been there with a camera for.

I have a date with #4 tomorrow at 1:30 - #4's 1st practice

That would be something if he ends up in Miani - with Parcells - Parcells originally drafted him and the Jets open up against Miami in FLA.

Hopefully I can catch a glimpse of him!

I have a date with #4 tomorrow at 1:30 - #4's 1st practice

A couple of teams have contacted Chad - 1 being Miami.

That would be something if he ends up in Miani - with Parcells - Parcells originally drafted him and the Jets open up against Miami in FLA.

Why? Because I'm only 5'6"? You making fun of my vertically challenged stature:lol:;)

Wow, it's nice out today, Saturday. Jets training camp is at 1:30pm. You know that's gonna be super crowded.

I'm hitting the one on Sunday morning, 8:45am. I think it's safe to say it will be less crowded when I go...but probably will be kind of packed anywhere for the ex-packer!

I don't shoot sports at all...and I was pretty lost out there.
The wife was getting bored so I was there for only an hour.
Only managed a few salvageable shots...
Better luck next time :-(

Here are a few for the Pats training camp. Glad it did not rain for one day so I could go this year.

The wire service I am employed by has exclusive rights for all NFL images. I wasn't sure if the exclusivity was reserved for everything NFL or for in season images only. Just called my employer and got the ok. Pre-season training is not considered an exclusive since it's open to the public.

Finally had a chance to get up to Packers training camp with the camera...just my luck, practicing in shells instead of pads. Oh well, still fun to shoot. Last time I tried shooting training camp was about 6 years ago. Lots of new faces. All shot through the chain link fence from amongst the crowd

Wow, Aaron Rogers looks old. I guess I thought he was still somewhat of a "rookie". First time seeing a nice shot of him. Beautiful pictures.
