Hello:

Any comments on raw image comparisons between the 20D, and the 1D MKII, at 100, 400 and 1600asa?

I know color, contrast and sharpness can be changed during file processing. I'm only interested in comments on file-native noise and sharpness from similarly processed (as close as possible) raw files shot with the same lens.

I'm well aware of all of the different camera features, 1.3 vs 1.6 chip-size, build construction etc., of both bodes. Just interested in how these two 8mp chips compare.

Thanks.

The 1D MkII has less noise than the 20D at all except ISO 3200.

This is from DRReview's 20D review:

To add to the above re noise, the 1D MK-II also resolves more detail in shadow areas and is better for getting detail back from blown out areas from RAW files.

This was the first thing I noticed, can it have anything to do with the better DR?

Yes. That is the better dynamic range of the 1DMKII over the 20D.
