An announcement:

After careful consideration I have made my mind. In next month Exhibit Engine 2 is to be put under GPL licence which means Open Source. That means (hopefully) plenty of updates and fixes, improvements and features. I simply do not have time to do it it all myself, and EE is worth preservation and updates. So I look forward to work with people who are enthusiastic and eager to make the best gallery application surpass itself.

More details later,

Pekka

Oh ! Well, i certainly wish you and all EE users good luck what with all the project management...

So, you will be like a new Linus Torwalds ? :-)

Thank you for the update Pekka. Unfortunately, my programming knowledge is too scarce to be able to help. But I do hope that some people will invest some time in this great piece of software!

Whow, that's good news Pekka. Maybe I will join the project in the (near) future.

Will be interesting to see how the "community" picks it up. Could get some interesting enhancements, though keeping control over it could be tricky. Might find there are offshoot projects also if people have different ideas.

Hmm, it has obviously not been picked up yet ?

Is EE already Open Source and what's about the details you were talking about in July? Where do I find the information on that?

Well,as Pekka said "I simply do not have time to do it it all myself". Making it Open Source takes time as well.

Hello!

Well, I'm back - and with a vengeance.
I jumped ship from EE about 2 years ago in favor of "lightboxPhoto" due to it's supposed e-commerce capabilities. After having several hackings and general P.I.T.A operating/using the software I've decided to get back to EE.

It's taken me a few days getting my brain up to speed with the templating and CSS structure and how Pekka has structured EE in general. But I've already started to add/work on some things.

1. Expanding upon the "send postcard" concept so that a button to "send a postcard to someone" appears on the photo display page. Mutiple e-mail addresses and comment section included.

2. Ability to change frames on the fly. So you can see how the image would look in various framing set-ups. Working on two angles - PHP reload page and JavaScript.

3. The beast: E-commerce. But not in the traditional sense. Basically creating a back-end to manage images, editions, prints and pricing of images from a photographers stand-point. Print size groupings (editions) based on aspect ratio and individual/custom pricing schemes.
Lightbox and cart capabilities for registered users.
Ability to submit order via email.
I have all of this working in a massive FilemakerPro database. So a model is there for me to work from.

As I get my add-ons working properly I'll post up instructions and code/pages.

That's great news Doug!

I'll be happy to see ee updated (hopefully with an easier installation package ;-))

Thanks for the time invested (having no programmation capabilities, I can't help - unfortunately...)

Anyone out there who wants to run EE open source project? I can and will help of course but I do not have time for doing it all.

I will produce a short document which will explain design principles which I wish to be honored when coding it further.

PM me if interested.
