in the german world, the 40D just dropped suddenly around 100 euros in price. a signal of possible dealer house-cleaning before a 40Dn release at photokina? (a 12MP version with the sensor from the Xsi?)

hey scokar. it was 899, and now it's 800. one reputable place even has it for 777 euros.

who knows, but this might be clearing some shelve space for something that canon will use to fire back at nikon.

Sorry, but that is only because the cash back is over in Germany.

Whenever they introduce cashback it takes about 1-2 weeks until
most dealers raise the prices of cameras and lenses (those jerks).
In the case of the 40D they rose it by about 100€. What you are
seeing now is just the dealers returning to the original price minus
20€ or 30€. I know because I've been observing the Price since the
beginning of cashback. I am still waiting for a 700€ deal with
German warranty :)

In US it's about 930usd (adorama, BHphoto) and rebate (50usd) if you buy with canon printer...

Best Buy and Circuit City also advertised a $200 price-drop for the 40D in the Sunday ads. It's still cheaper at B&H and the like, though, but I guess this further foreshadows the upcoming release of a new model, presumably the 50D.

I guess it's possible Canon would replace the 40d after a year, but not likely. Look for a Feb announcement.

I'm new around here, and have been shopping for a 40D.

Bestbuy, and Amazon are sold out, at least for the kit with the 28-135. Amazon has in-stock in 1-2 months. Our local Circuitcity is out too.

Canon list price dropped by $200 over the last weekend, right after the expiration of the $200. rebate. New list price in US is $1099. for the body only and $1299 for the kit with the 28-135 zoom.

and now the price has dropped another 50 euros here. it went from 1300 euro to 750 euros in 9 months... i see this as another sign, especially considering that this new rebate lasts until august 31st, just in time to clear some shelf space for a 40Dn before photokina in köln. YMMV.

No price drop in the UK, been hovering around the £600 mark for ages.

I don't know where you've been the last 6 months but the price of the 40D
has only dropped 50-100€ since the begining gof the year. Yes there was
the steep 1300€ price when it was introduced but the good and cheap
online shops (ac-foto.com to name just one) had a price that was
850-900€ in Feb. The price went up by about 50-100€ when the 150€
cashback came and went down to 800€ after cashback.

If you were observing much higher price drops it is because your dealer
was more expensive than the competition in the first place. Many dealers
start out with the MSRP and only slowly adjust the price because they want
to make more profit.
