Went to my temple: B&H at 34th Street and 9th Avenue in the greatest city in the world. I live about 50 miles north in a suburban county.

Plunked down 1799 for the Epson Stylus 4000, bought two extra ink cartridges, light magenta and light cyan (as the guy on luminous landscape says these go the quickest), a 100 foot long by 16 inch wide roll of Premium Luster Photo Paper (250), which all totaled about 2100, drove around to the loading dock, put it in the back and drove home with a huge smile on my face. Huge, but not quite as huge as the printer.

It was relatively easy to set up and I had it going within 15 minutes or so, after about the initial 8 minutes when it charges itself with the different inks.

So far, the results are excellent. I have a 20d and I printed a family shot with camera on self timer on tripod; a picture of an elderly Chinese fellow sitting on the street in Chinatown fixing shoes, and a couple of wrestling pics from the high school's team.

Glad I have off tomorrow; it'll give me more time to print.

I am really interested in getting the 2200 or 4000. I have a 1270 and its getting a little old.

I really want a 4000, and have the room for it. But $1,100 more is hard to swallow. I really want to move up in print size though.

One big consideration for me, as Michael Reichmann, editor of LuminousLandscape.com reported, is that the printer will pay for itself in the ink savings in the first six months if you print alot. The ink cartridges, while about 50 dollars apiece, for the 110ml version, are about the size of a paperback novel. The large ones, 220ml, are huge and are about 80 dollars. I got tired of constantly replacing ink cartridges on my Canon S9000. I also wanted the larger print size and the pigment inks as I believe they last longer. The paper, which can be had in 100 foot rolls, is also much cheaper that way in the long run.

Sneaking it in ain't the problem; keeping it hidden it. Especially during the first 15 minutes or so of operation as it sucks the ink cartridges half dry as it charges the lines and aligns the head with this way cool blue laser light that it emits.

BTW, if you go on the Luminouslandscape, don't be fooled by the picture of it on his shelf. Imagine it over twice that size. Looking at the box on the wood skid is a better rendering of its size.

Well setting it up is no biggie. When I am on my days off I have the entire week off. So I can play while she is at work. The problem is she thinks the 1270 is big (compared to the Leximark all-in-one downstairs on the "house" computer. :)
