Walking down a local pier I stumbled across some skaters, they commented on my 20d "nice camera, is that also a telescope?" "Can you see the stars with that?" But then seriously asked me if I wanted to shoot some action. I switched to a wider lens (efs 28-105) and got some shots, I used the "action" setting on the dial because I really had no idea how I should setup the camera in this lower light situation.

I've never shot skaters and and generally a newb when it comes to all things photography. Some of the shots are pretty interesting to me at least. All I've done to them is crop/resize/add copyright/upload.

I know better lighting/setup would be ideal, better glass also wouldn't hurt.
Let me know what you think and what I can do to take better shots next time I run into some skaters.

try a faster shutter speed next time. takes out the blur, unless you were going for movement.
just try it though, see if you like the effect. usually helps with the clarity. skateboard parks are a haven for photographs though. keep it up.

as for lighting, just use what you've got. if it's really dark, you might need to bump up the iso. but a faster shutter speed is usually synonymous with a slower [faster] aperture so it works out.

I'm only going to say what most guy will on here say that shoot skateboarding.... you should loosen up the shots... work on the focus, like if you know there going to hit that bench, manual focus on the bench then all you have to worry about is your comp and timing... all in all just have fun learning

composition is way tight, just use full manual ( faster shutter, higher iso, low aperture ), and dont cut body parts off.

thanks for the input, I knew I'd get some good ideas.
I'll keep an eye out for more skaters to practice, practice, practice.
