G'Day all.
A building I only recently discovered :-) !
This is the Lead Light Tower, an historical building in Newcastle. It is the surviving member of a pair of towers used for shipping navigation. Originally it was painted red, and had a white light.
It was used between 1877 and 1918, when surrounding buildings obscured its visibilty.

A short history is here.

Wow, you don't see a lot of those, and if you do it's usually in a fairytale.

Nice!

Thanks for the comments.

Since it was painted red with a white light it may have resmebled a barbers pole and the hair might have been cut off :-) :-) - actually if it was built in the 1870's she might be a bit long in the tooth now :-).

I actaully though it may have been a water tower when I first came across it because fo the pipe up the side :-)

Are you sure it's not a rook from a very large chess set?
