View Full Version : Shooting moving targets in the dark?

I'm an active music fan, meaning I see lots of live shows in clubs etc. Sometimes I might be interested of taking photos, too - but then we have a little problem. It's usually quite dark in the clubs AND the artists are moving on the stage. How to get best photos?

If using long exposure time, there's nothing reasonable visible on the photos because of the rapid movement. If I reduce the exposure time, the photos can be way too dark even at ISO400 (awfully noisy!) and +2EV! Usually even the usage of flash is forbidden... So, any ideas or suggestions? So far I've just used some 1/10sec with f/2.0-2.5 or so, and depending on the lightning, the photos may be good or then they don't :(

Using G2, if that matters.

Doesn't the G2 have a f1.8? You'll have to sacrifice focus throughout the shot, but you can let more light in with the aperture wide open. Maybe you already tried this, but with that setting you can use ISO200 maybe. Good luck!

There have been a few posts related to nightime shots of musicians. I did not have time to look them up -- but try the Search Engine. Or ask Pekka. Or ask Khena -- see the nightime drums on his Home Page (Excalibrr) URL on his recent post "WARNING - More Nude Women.

EDIT:

And look or assk Maple about the first pic in this post:
