I am a professional photographer using the D60. On several occasions I have had problems with the auto focus only in this situation.

Outdoor groups, shot aperature priority, f5.6, using the Canon 28-70 L. I would lock auto focus on someone near the center of the group. My subjects are out of focus and the background is sharp. Has anyone had this problem? Any answers?
Thanks,
Alan

Hi Alan,

I havn't had this problem personally but I have read about members of this forum that have. I believe that it was a camera calibration problem in their case. A forum search may help a little more.

Alan,

I have the same problem. I sent my 1-month-old D60 back to Canon last week with an explanation letter and two image samples showing the issue: have a look at http://www.pbase.com/image/6121505/original (1:1 crop).

As I told them, the back focusing is more likely to occur with my 70-200 f/4 (almost %80 of my shots with this lens are out-of-focus) but it is also present with my 28mm and my 50mm.

I will try to keep you guys posted about what they did (or didn't do) to fix the problem.

Mskad.

I hope Canon will fix this problem for you. Please keep us posted.
Thanks,

My D60 is back from Canon (after 2 weeks). After few tests, it seems that they fixed my back-focusing issue. My 50 f/1.8 is now delivering incredibly sharp images but my 70-200 f/4 seems to be a bit soft (but at least in focus).

Good to here Canon fixed your problem! I will be sending my D60 and 28-70 L lens for repair on Monday.

I have this exact problem. Usually when shooting distant (near-infinity, but not quite) objects at 70mm on my 24-70L.

I found this interesting quote by another forum member:

"I have both a D30 and D60, and ordered the D60 service manual to fix a slight back focus problem that I had with it. After making a very small adjustment with the with the software calibration routine on the service manual, my D60 is now performing great."

It sounds like this calibration can be done without sending your camera to Canon. Does anyone know of how one can perform this software calibration routine at home (hopefully for free :) )?
