I recently bought the 300D with the standard lens. I would like to purchase a good lens for low light (non-flash) shooting. I would also like to purchase a macro lens to get all of those wonderful "pollen and dew" shots that I see here on the forum. I'm not a pro or a wealthy hobbiest, so I can't afford the L-class lenses. Can anyone suggest any other standard lenses for these applications? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I thank you in advance, kind gentlepeople.

50mm-1.8 and 100mm-2.8 Macro, for instance.

Definitely 100 2.8 macro for those flowers and bugs. As far as low lighting, we can give you a better answer if you tell us what you're shooting. Canon makes lots of fast lenses that range from wide to telephoto. Pierrot mentioned the 50 1.8. Its a cheaply priced lens that'll give you good results in low lighting, if you can tolerate the build quality and lack of USM.

Another vote for the Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro - excellent lens ! You can see some examples made with it here (http://www.pbase.com/olegis/fall_2004&page=all) and here (http://www.pbase.com/olegis/ein_hemed). One more thing to consider for macro photography is a sturdy tripod - you should buy one if you want to get sharp results, you just can't do any serious macro photography without it because of the very shallow DOF.
