Hello all,

I got my first studio strobes, the Calumet Genesis 200 kit (2 lights). Here is my first shots taken with them, and my first really with any studio strobes. Please tell me how I can improve. I used the Genesis strobe to the left of the camera, shooting through an umbrella about 45 degrees to the baby. I didn't have anything white to bounce off of in the right for fill, so I set up my Speedlite 580EX flash on the right side of the camera, 45 degrees to the baby, for some fill on the shadows.

I know I need to work on lighting the background to make it more WHITE! Any suggestions on how to do that?

great shot but the lighting is very flat and the image looks a little under exposed. I am sure you are goin to have fun with your new toys.

Needs a little PS help.
adjusted levels, saturation. Selected just the white background and brightened it.

that looks better, can you briefly tell me how to select just the white background and lighten it in PS?

What version of PS do you have? I have CS3 which has a great quick selection tool. If you have a prior version then I would use the magic wand tool or the lasso tool.

It is called the quick selection tool. Here is the best advice you could ever have for Phtotoshop...... Google. I am serious. Anything you want to know just type it in Google. Loaded with tutorials for Photoshop. That is how I learned. For instance..type in quick selection tool photoshop and see what you get. What I know about photoshop is completely self taught.
