Does anyone have any interesting alternatives to this old line? It's been used so much that I often get some very "unmotivated" looking smiles.

I usually go with "Right, now take your top off and look saucy". 99% guarantee of a smile.
WARNING:
Do not use on children or large, muscular, angry looking men.

Stinky toes, pink underwear, girls in bikini's, Mom/Dad/sister/brother has stinky feet or I'll say I'm taking it on the count of 3. "1.........2.............2 1/2...........usually get a grin at that ..if not I'll go to 2 3/4.

Love your avatar CBO. That's really helpful. Here I'd been clutching babies faces to force them to smile all this time. The puppet method looks like it might work better.

I love this one! (Actually I'll bet it would work well on large, muscular, angry looking men.)
Great topic for a thread. I hope this one lives a long time.

Kids, try "Pepsi". Adults, "sticky knickers".

Just wait until you're a big old guy with a beard. The Santa Claus references wear thin after the first 10,000 times.

The reason the word "cheese" is used is when the mouth makes the "eeee" sound the mouth looks like a smile. You either have to use a word with "eee" in it, or say something that makes everyone in the group genuinely smile. "Cheese" tends to be easier.
