Can't wait til the battery charges! The box is full of stuff..I'm so happppyyyy!!!
And by the way, I got it from the local dealer (The Camera Shop in Bryn Mawr, PA), and they told me the price dropped by $400, and they generally charge MSRP..so I guess the Nikon competition is showing its effect on Canon pricing, that the 1DsMkII is now officially $7,599.
I will post pics asap..

UPDATE:
Click here (http://home.comcast.net/~eldoronki/VW6T0016.jpg) to see a sample pic, and tell me what you think..I had to resize the photo by 50%!

Enjoy your purchase - I wish I could afford that :)

I had to take out a loan for it, and I'm hoping that what I sell will cover this loan. I don't really sell a lot at all, mainly because I already work two full-time jobs, and don't have enough time to seek where to sell my stuff. I am currently just sticking to people that I know at work and their aquaintances (5,000 employees!), until I figure out what to do next. So that loan might not get paid off as fast as I anticipate, but, I'll take my chances.
Thanks Alan.

Enjoy!!!!

I'm happy for you.
OK, actually I'm too busy with being happy for myself, as I've had my 20D now for about a week ;)

Best regards,
Andy

Thanks guys.. I already took a couple of silly shots, and I am more than impressed. I feel that all I've learned about photography needs a major update, or simply divide everything I know about photography by 1.6!! Really, right now I think it's more camera than I can physically and mentally handle.
All I can say is that the 17-40mm lens on this camera is unreal. Fantastic!

Now I must learn it, and make money to pay this thing off!!

Wow, $400 price drop? So it's only $7599 now. Dang, it's still more than I can afford :(

Even the price of perfection comes down eventually! Not much, but it's a start. Hope you love and use it a lot!

yeah, the picture has a lot of noise, and the image quality is lousy.
Now I'm glad I didn't get one...

(Just kidding, congrats!)

You scared me for "1.6" seconds there!

Everyone, thanks for your replies and well wishes.

Ahem... :o

The first thing I saw in the very center of my display was this kinda strange micropenis of yours, feeling soooooo excited by your new toy.

Then I realized it was only a part of this gigantic flower close-up you shot for us to share.

Man, I wish I could get such one! (I mean : such a camera) ;)

You're talking about the flower picture, right?

Anyway, I really am soooo excited because a month ago, $4,500 for a 1D was kinda crazy (and really, I don't shoot sports or action). All of a sudden, my wife gets this card w/$5,000 as a limit, I had like $2,000 saved, and another $1,000 loan; all out of nowhere!
I really didn't even have to beg my wife for the money! She encouraged me and went outta her way to help me get this camera. Man, do I have to pay her back!

Congratulations and the best part once that battery is charged is that it will be awhile before it runs out. I took over 2500 images (RAW+M2) and the battery still is not showing reduced charge yet. Never got that many on my 10D, even with the battery grip and two BP-511s.

Actually, you'd better pay the credit card company back first. I think they'll be a little less patient. :)

But seriously, years ago I quit borrowing money for depreciating assets, figuring I'd enjoy them a lot more without that monthly reminder. All of us have different threshholds for "slavery," and the great thing about life is that we can all make those choices. Hope it works out for you.

I'm not old enough to be anybody's grandpa, and I've certainly made some financial mistakes, but I'd encourage you to break that cycle at some point. I think you'd find a whole new world out there! ;)

And nice first picture. Mine was of a lamp. I guess that's what excitement will do for you! I think I would have been excited no matter what I shot.

No kidding! I've yet to charge mine even once after about a three weeks of shooting! :)

Quite frankly, I was in deep financial trouble because of credit. The Chapter 7 type of trouble. Eversince then (which really isn't too long ago), I have paid in cash for everything I have, and that is just a relaxing feeling. The 1Ds though is a different story. I don't see myself saving $8k then take it to a camera dealer. Keep in mind that I'm not the money-saver-type! Making payments on $8k is a lesser pain than saving, and I get to enjoy the camera sooner too.
I know it will depreciate at a certain point, but, that doesn't really matter. Think of this: if a 1Ds Mk 3 (III) is ever made, would I buy it? I would definitely need to upgrade to a super duper computer to handle that kind of memory such a camera would produce, not to mention buying extra flash memory...it won't be "just" $8k for that upgrade.
In brief, I really think that the 1Ds MkII is a different purchase. And, it's the last camera that I will probably ever "need".
Speaking of "slavery", I used to pay $840/month on my BMW (sans insurance), and I don't even have it now. So $8k is not so bad a slavery!

I got mine a couple of months ago. It's a great camera! Enjoy.

You better have plenty of "L" glass. And a very sturdy tripod and head that can handle 8-10 pounds with camera, heavy "L" lens, flash, etc.

The 1Ds MkII has so much resolution, it is very unforgiving. You need great glass and your technique needs to be perfect. It is a challenge to use for botanicals, macro shots, etc. Tiny, almost imperceptible movements from air currents, etc. become very obvious in 1Ds MkII enlargements.

Cheers,

Mitch

Congrats and ouch. $5,000 at what? 18%-20% monthly compounding? Then $1000, 8%-9%? Man you really need to learn to save hah.

BTW listen to what DCB is saying, debt is killer, especially to go into that much over a camera if ask me. Especially if it's not a necessity.

There are a lot of priorities in life. If you are the breadwinner, take care of your family first but paying on a camera is not the worst vice in the world. At least your not drinking it away , gambling or doing drugs. Not everyone can afford this $8000 camera but hey, a digital rebel and a 10D, 20D are a heck of a lot of fun. I bought my first Canon (FTb) in the early 70's. I scraped to get my $130 for this from a friend in Vietnam. I practiced and read and practiced and read. I made a darkroom at home etc. I'm a full time teacher but now I do $50,000 a year in photography part time and I'm completely self taught. It's a great hobby and some of us can go beyond a hobby. I've loved photography for over 30 years and I still feel that I have a lot to learn and have done so on this forum. Use common sense with your purchase....I don't think that payments are a good idea but if a person can start paying for your equipment with the new item...go for it.

Same here, my 15mm fisheye, 16-35, 24-70 back to normal when I put it on the new 1DsMKII. The previous 1DMKII just doesn't show right with wide angle.
