Hello I am a newby to this forum and probably I put this topic not in the right forum but time will tell. I come to this forum because I have the following problem.
Last year I lost my digital camera in a NY taxi so I bought directly a new one it became a Powershot SD110. This camera is handy but not totaly up to what I wanted so last week I got myself a Powershot S70 and it is great. But I like to experience with RAW.
Now I have a Powermac and Photo Elements 2.0 but I understand that I have to upgrade to 3.0 to import RAW pictures from the S70. Is this the case?
Furhermore are the RAW image from the CANON camera's standard the same or are there different RAW formats in the CANON serie's.
Thanks for your help.
Greetings, Ben

I have an S70 and a Mac and Photoshop CS. It took a few weeks for Adobe to come out with a RAW plug-in that would accept S70 shots. I don't know if Photo Elements uses plug-ins, but it's free so you can download and give it a try.

Sad to say, the above proves that the S70 uses a different format from the S60, S50, etc. Nikon, Canon, Olympic, all have proprietory formats for RAW images. Adobe has developed the DNG or Digital Negative format and offered it as a free standard for all camera manufacturers. Admittedly, DNG just came out a couple of months ago, but so far no takers.

What happens to your RAW images in ten years? Who knows? Best convert to JPEG while you can (if JPEG is still around in a decade…).

I use the RAW a lot, bue with PS CS, but in elements I think there has to be a plug in too, try looking the adobe.com page.

Cheers!
