I'd advise caution ... if you break it, you have a major problem.
I didn't search the forum, but I remember an older post to that effect.

I fixed a bent pin in a cheapie card reader I have.. I used a tiny flat bladed precision screwdriver to bend it back into position.
I'd be nervous about doing it to my camera.. I don't know how brittle the pins are. There could be a chance of breaking it as you bend it back.

I did it on a Minolta Dimage 7Hi with no problems, using a jewellers flat head screwdriver.

No, but I fixed several bent pins on a P4 CPU chip before.

What are the CANON Techs gonna do that would different than using just a screwdriver. I doubt they have a special technique for fixing these. Either way if you or they break one your still gonna be charged. So just try it yourself with a jewelers flat screwdriver. If its not BENT really really bad you shouldnt really worry

I just unbent one. It wasn't too bad. It was for the camera at work. The odds of it getting bent again are about the same as the odds that USC will start the football season as #1 in the polls. I'll let you know how many unbends are possible before breakage.

I'm one of those DIY guys who has a very high success rate at fixing things. But even I won't try to do that.

I just had to unbend a pin in my cardreader.
Tricky stuff.
Had the pin been just bent by torsional motion, it would've been one story. It would've been bent at the base only, and you would've straightened it out no problem.
But I tried to force the CF card in, so it's not bent straight, but with an angle. It's impossible to straighten it with a screwdriver.
I took the cardreader apart and even with access from the side and surgical "pickers" couldn't straighten the damn thing out.
It works, but now it's just the inside circuitry wrapped in isolating tape :D

I have successfully unbent a number of pins on a CPU before and they were bent completely flat to the surface of the cpu. They had quite a lot of flexibility and didn't look as if they would break even after multiple bending.
Of course the pins in the camera may be made of something different but probably not

Worst come to worst the pin was bent back to upright position and then you plug in the CF. But it break inside your CF card when you pull out next time.
End up need to fix 2 things:evil: .

I fairly often have a bent pin in my card reader: they can be quite difficult to see but I check how much its bent using a magnifying glass - then using a Stanley Knife blade (box cutter in US?) I GENTLY ease the pin back into position.
Good luck - let us know how you get on.
