OK we had a thread a little bit back on this.....

When is this thing coming, reason I ask. Should I jump on the Rebates right now or wait and get the Digital Rebel mk II when, and if, it comes out?

I have a trip I'd like to take a DSLR on in March, but I can't decide if I should wait or not. I'd also really be ticked if I purchased one now and a dumbed down 20D came out in April. I know it's obsolete the second you buy it.

Or should I just keep shooting film until this summer? And wait and see if the Drebel 2 is out. I'd love a 20D, but that's just more then I'm willing to swing at this time.

If you have waited this long, set a date, if it doesn't happen, then just buy it. I am not sure if Canon is going to make a major update to the rebel. They just released a black model.

I think they have done this; released a much improved 20D as a mid range, revamped the rebel as their entry level, 1DMKII as their pro model, and the 1DsMKII as their med-format alternative............Looking at it, it makes a lot of sense.

Yeah, I was wondering if a new Rebel 2 might come out in Feb. at the big photo show?

I'd get the rebel.

It's a reliable and tested camera. It has no technical "issues" and the line that's producing them is well adjusted.

When new one comes out, it may have issues. It's gonna be "hot" and untested.

My rebel give good quality 6 mp and I have no need for anything bigger.

Concentrate your desire to get the latest and greatest on lenses :D

I believe that a sucessor to the 300D will be released some time in the very near future. It will be a baby 20D, the main advantages over the 300D will probably be:
- 20D sensor (8MP, lower noise at higher ISO).
- ETTL II
- FEC

I think all other things will be left the same: buffer size, frame rate, LCD size, appearance, etc.

Wait 'till PMA in feburary in case a much improved model in released!
Don't fall for the worriers comments-it will be available in large numbers allmost immediately (like the 20D was) and any small software issues it may have will be trivial
The new model will have faster start up and bigger buffer (these are computer related things that allways get cheaper/bigger) but the frame rate will be about the same
The bigger sensor is very likely

The waiting game always goes on...The longer you wait, the more features and quality the same amount of money can buy...But you have that much less time to shoot.

Happy shooting!

That's true... that's why I've decided to not play the game and ordered half an hour ago a 20D :D :D :D
I hope to hold the baby in my hands beginning of next week

Yep, exactly the same dilemma as the OP - but my trip is in April :-)

If Canon release a new Rebel at PMA (as would seem likely), what happens between January 31st (when the rebates end) and the start of PMA on February 20th? That's almost three weeks when supposedly the price of the 300D shoots back up again to full price! Surely not - that would be dumb?

Where do you think the new model would fit in to their product line? Above or below the current 300D, and therefore do you expect the price on the current 300D model to drop dramatically after any announcement?

If the new model is roughly the same price as the current 300D, I'd buy that, but if it's significantly more expensive I'd go for the 300D at a hopefully reduced price.

I'd get the Rebel with rebates. That's what I did last month and the final price of the Rebel after rebates cost me $480.00. My plan was to buy the best possible lenses and buy the Rebel as a back-up camera first and then eventually buy the 20D.

With all the rebates I got a 17-40L, 50mm 1.4, and 70-200L f4. With all said and done and after rebates the whole kit of lenses and Digital Rebel cost me less than one 20D body.

When the Rebel sucessor's released, I bet they won't make the 300D any more - like the 10D once the 20D came out. You might find people lowering prices to get rid of stock, if they have any left.
