Here're a couple of shots. I increased the levels a bit in PS (and resized them), but other than that they're untouched. Lemme know what you think.

Since I still don't have a remote shutter switch (next month), I set the camera's self-timer to avoid shaking, and just set the shutter speed (my best shots came at ~20 seconds with an f/~10).

Incidentally, I'm new

I like them, particularly the second and last ones. Welcome to the board.

Very nice, I like long-exposure night shots, it makes things look a bit surreal!

Very nice low light shots I must say . . .

Thanks! Haven't had too much of a chance to take nice shots since I got the camera (two weeks ago, but whatever).

I have to admit, these were total luck... OK, there was some skill involved .

Incidentally, if anyone's got some criticism or advice, I'm all ears.

Thanks again...

Oh, 10 points to whomever can figure out where I took these :)

Numbers 2 and 4 work best for me. Nice shooting.

Looks like a lot of people like #4. I got lucky on that one because, off to the right, there's a sodium light (the orange ones are sodium, right?) pointed pretty much in that direction, so it lights up the water fountain from a different angle than the underwater lights. It even looks good in real life.

I like them a BUNCH. Did you do anything in PS to get the "starburst effect" on the two lights in the background?

I like them a BUNCH. Did you do anything in PS to get the "starburst effect" on the two lights in the background?Nope, but it happened because of the shape of the reflectors in the lamps. I don't have a picture of 'em, but basically the bulb sits in the center and there're three angled reflective discs surrounding it... it makes a neat pattern on the ground, spreads the light out more but blocks it from going up, and apparently allows star-like effects on cameras :)

Very nice pics, especially the last one. I tried to shoot a fountain with slow shutter to get effects like in your pic but was no good.
Wish I could shoot like yours.

Cheers

CheersPlay around with it a lot. I ended up taking about 25 shots all told, and only posted four. Some were dark, others were just bad.

My rule (with instant-gratification-digitals) is: shoot with as much auto as possible (in my case, auto everything except shutter speed) and see what the camera wants in order to compensate. This way you have some baseline settings. Once that's done take the shot and check it out, then start playing with the settings in full manual.

The last one is my favourite. I love doing shots at night under long exposures. Incidently I'm also new, (1st posting) :D
