Ok, so for whatever reason my computer isn't reading my card. Usually when I plug it in the CF slot on the computer, a menu pops up asking me if I want to upload photos and how, but now it's not doing anything-it's not doing anything!
The card is working fine, and the pictures show on my camera. I don't think it's the card, as I tried to upload pictures from my Ultra 2GB card and it's also not being read.
Has anybody had this problem before? I use Windows Vista btw.

Can you just open up the card in My Computer and see it? What program where you using to upload the photos?

It's saying there is no card inserted in the slot.

Sounds like your memory card reader is faulty. If you have a secondary reader try that, if not ask a friend to see if your card gets received by another computer!

Ooops, try restarting your computer, with out the card in the reader. Then insert the card and see if your computer finds or tries to read your card.

I've tried everything, to no avail.
For some reason, the card works just fine on my brother's computer...

Are you using the same card reader on your brothers computer or a different one?

Same.
& it's a card reader built in to the computer (it has a slot for CF cards).

first off.. have a look inside the reader to make sure none of the pins are bent.

Try putting the card back into the camera and connecting the camera to your computer using a USB connector.
If it works, you know your card reader is faulty.

If it works on your brothers computer, I would think the card is probably okay. I would hook up the card to your computer, then check the Disk Management console to see if you have something else using the drive letter it usually assigns. I ran into this problem before on XP but not on vista. Its worth a try.???

Have you tried using a different card reader on your computer?
I'd just get an external card reader. They are usually much faster anyways. Wal-mart has a Targus brand one that is actually very good for about $12. I picked one up while I was out of town and forgot my Sandisk reader. I was very pleased with it and it is now my emergency reader that always stays in my camera bag.

It appears as though you just need a new card reader. They are way too cheap to frustrate about, just get one.

Not necessarily the card reader is faulty, the USB port on your computer could be dead. Try different port.

OP is using the card reader built in to the computer.

Yes I know, they're all connected into a USB port inside the motherboard :)

If running Windows XP, try this.
- Open Control Panel
- Launch Administrative Tools
- Launch Computer Management
- Select Removable Storage
It should show all drives and contents. Right click and select open or change the drive letter.

Yes, but most people don't know that and even fewer have ever opened up their case or are willing to.
If we're inside the case, simply re-seating the connection to the motherboard may fix the problem. If not then the next step would be to switch ports on the motherboard.
